Why didn’t Darleen Zerafa apply for a proper scholarship instead of ‘stealing’ charity money?

Darleen scholarship

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education has shaken off his zombie-like state (see previous post) just long enough to announce that the government has launched its latest installment in the postgraduate scholarship scheme.

So why hasn’t Darleen Zerafa applied for this scheme? Maybe because she would have had to submit to a proper interview board and full scrutiny, and because the scholarship won’t pay for her not-on-Ryanair flights or hotels?

Or because it was just so much easier to work things out with brother-in-law Robert’s papa the president? A word over Sunday lunch, and it’s a done deal – with OPM (other people’s money).

They continue to milk the taxpayer. I am sure that donations to the Community Chest Fund could be for genuine ‘charitable’ causes. Also, Darleen could not find a temporary job to pay for her Masters overseas. How very naive of me, why pay when you can get it for free.

“proper interview board and full scrutiny”….not really. I think you’re being a bit optimistic about that.

Ara jiena vera basla, nahdem il hin kollu, nghin lill kullhadd min-naqra li ghandi, pero issa li harget l-arroganza li ghandu l-president li rakkomanda lill-bord biex Darleen Zerafa oht il-mara tat-tifel tieghu, ihallsulla l-masters, issa le naghti aktar donation lill-MCCF.

Min jaf kemm hemm aktar affarijiet li ahna ma nafhux. Hbieb, hemm ghaqdiet ohra fejn tistaw tghinu.

I agree with you.She should have applied for her scholarship somewhere else and if her course was of some importance it would have been granted.

Why are some people more equal than others? My daughter applied through the official scholarship scheme and got the funds because her subject was of high priority.

Surely she got it on her own steam.

Why didn’t she pay for it herself, like so many others do, whilst holding down not one but two jobs.

Maybe she has not got all the qualifications required?

Can the opposition not move a motion of ‘No Confidence’ on the President, in Parliament?

I doubt if the goverment will do anything about this.

Okay the motion may not pass on the grounds that the goverment holds a majority of seats and may well vote it down, but it will be a correct stand taken by the opposition, which stand seems to reflect the feelings of many people on this.

This is a golden opportunity for Simon Busutill to show that the opposition will be strong and credible.
