Here’s a nice photograph of the man reported to be our new ambassador to Belgium

He’s the one on the far right (oh dear) holding the microphone and MC-ing this Labour event, just as he has been master of ceremonies all those other Labour congresses, mass meetings, Super One fundraisers and what-have-you.
Such dignity and gravitas. Such great intellect. Such conversation. He will do us proud. But he will find plenty of chocolate ferrets to munch on, and they won’t melt.

I am surprised JM has not appointed you on a board yet
Such wit such intellect you have etc etc etc
[Daphne – He can’t do so without my agreement, Dennis. It’s fascinating the way all you people think I desperately want to be on a government board or commission. If I did, I would have done it by now, not wait for a government I don’t agree with. Shouldn’t that have occurred to you.]
Poor Dennis. Such wit such intellect you have etc etc etc
Dennis, you are not the sharpest tool in the box, are you?
I mean, how can you be when you listen to what you like to hear and then repeat it like a parrot?
Dennis, you must be so naive, you must realise that not all the people believe in “meritocracy” the way you do.
I have stopped trying to fight this typically post-feudal peasant clientilist attitude we have in Southern Europe.
Of course, people always project their own feelings on to others, oblivious to the fact that, to those of us not conditioned by this mentality, it never even crossed our minds to be appointed to such and such a board.
For the Maltese, there must always be a hidden agenda. Believing that someone may do something because they actually believe in it — such as protecting freedom of expression tooth and nail as is the case with most of those commenting here — is too far-fetched. Lofty ideals cannot be believed in the Mediterranean, least of all in Malta.
Dennis, what a waste. You seem to be adorned with so much latent talent. About time some trusted moron whisper this bonanza into Joseph Muscat’s left ear. I will certainly not be surprised in the least to learn of your forthcoming …. prize.
Oh, wow Dennis. I’m really flattered that you think so much of Daphne’s qualities, but I actually think she should stay right where we want her most: i.e. here, managing this blog.
