Shades of Gaddafi’s Libya – perhaps Health Minister John Dalli told them this would be a good way of spying on the EBU delegates

Perhaps he can enter into an agreement with Manuel Mallia, so that money is saved at the general hospital by having Peter Paul Zammit and his men do the ward catering.

Perhaps he can enter into an agreement with Manuel Mallia, so that money is saved at the general hospital by having Peter Paul Zammit and his men do the ward catering.

During the Libyan civil war two years ago, international journalists holed up at the Rixos hotel in Tripoli were closely monitored and spied on by secret police officers masquerading as waiters.

Their true role was revealed when a woman who had been raped at a road-block, and subjected to inhuman treatment in custody, broke away from her police escort outside the hotel and burst in shouting her story to journalists.

Waiters suddenly turned into ‘Bond men’, wrestled her to the floor and tried to silence her.

I hardly think this is what happened at the EBU banquet, but we would do well to consider the scope for further abuse which this sort of abusive behaviour affords the police minister and his – I use the possessive advisedly – police commissioner.

And can you just imagine the stupidity of it? When the Minister for Broadcasting decides to use the police to cook and serve his banquet, who are the guests? Members of the European BROADCASTING Union.

  1. Meritocracy Rules says:

The correct name of the hotel is the Corinthia Bab Africa Hotel.

It should come as no surprise that Corinthia let its hotel be controlled by the former regime.

    • On behalf of Corinthia Hotels I would like to clarify that this incident is erroneously being attributed to the Corinthia Hotel Tripoli, also known locally as the Corinthia Bab Africa, whereas in reality the hotel that experienced this incident was the Rixos Hotel. Throughout the conflict, the Corinthia Hotel Tripoli remained in the total control of the hotel management and its heroic staff.

[Daphne – I will make the correction immediately, Manuel. And next time, please ring me…]

Mallia is proving himself to be a clown.

We shall have to see who runs the government – if it is the prime minister or the court jester.

    Any interest with the regime?

They’d save even more money at the hospital if they got the SAG to do the brain surgery.
