“The Labour Look”

Published: June 26, 2013 at 12:20pm

The Speaker of the House is no longer a Labour politician so he should have ditched the look. Somebody should let him know, and it won’t be his Facebook Friend Lolita Pusang from The Philippines, that dark socks should be worn at all times, and that those absolutely dreadful slip-ons should be thrown away and replaced with two pairs of identical proper black lace-ups, to be worn on alternate days.

The suit is awful, the shirt is cheap, and the tie is tacky – but it’s the shoes and socks that people who matter take note of first.

Those shoes look like a pair of slippers – next time he’ll be greeting people in a dressing-gown.

  2. Crocodile Dundee says:

Speaking of someone who had been politically assassinated in Malta, the headline in the international news right now is how Kevin Rudd has ousted PM Giulia Gillard as leader of the Australian Labour Party.

Mr. Rudd himself had been politically assassinated overnight in 2010.

This had happened shortly after Malta’s Dr. Joseph Muscat had paid a visit to Australia and had met Mr. Rudd in Canberra, where they were photographed shaking hands, with Mr. Rudd with his left hand in the pocket of his trousers. No other photos of any meetings between the two sitting around a table were ever published, so it is quite likely that the handshake encounter took place in some narrow corridor where bumping into each other was inevitable – a bit like Muscat’s picture with Mr. Hollande that was published in 2012.

What may be of interest to Malta is that Mr. Rudd has strong ties with China. He worked as a diplomat there for many years, and who know, maybe he may have some Maltese acquaintances. Mr. Rudd speaks Mandarin.

Dr. Muscat’s visit to Mr. Rudd in May 2010 came shortly after Mr. Muscat’s visit to China in April 2010.

    Any connections there?

What fools they make of themselves, the government and the State. Is there no one at the top with proper fashion sense now?

    And in other news:

    http://www.independent.com.mt/articles/2013-06-26/news/drug-abuse-by-schoolchildren-above-eu-average-1916665856/

With the Labour Party leading by example in responding so cavalierly to drug-dealing in one of its party clubs, I’m not surprised others don’t take it seriously.

The socks are not that bad. They match the floor tiles of his office.

Is that even a suit? Jacket and trousers don’t seem to be made of the same stuff.

Do the trousers and the jacket match?

    I doubt it.

  10. Brincat Farah says:

They really do dress horrendously, but then what do you expect.

Fashion sense is what they need to succeed.

  11. humpty dumpty says:

Mrs Muscat should get Marisa Grima and Carina Camilleri onto him.

  12. Tabatha White says:

A reflection of their logic really.

    Why not?

    Who knows?

False premises, but life goes on because the majority managed to get it wrong and a democracy means that all of the rest have to lump it.

Why do I feel that a democracy has serious failings?

Ah yes. Perhaps a democracy wasn’t designed with fakes and cheats in mind but real honourable people who are in the running to serve their country and all its people before themselves.

Honour was never an ingredient of the lengthy LP campaign – and here I beg to differ from the point made in the Ann Fenech Report: Their campaign began way before 2008. It was already underway in 2002.

From honour to socks, do they give a damn?
