This is Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s appointee to the Family Commission. Yes, really.

“Ara sinjura, jekk ir-ragel tieghek mhux qed jaghmel il-parti ta’ xoghlu fid-dar, itfaghlu bawzer hara wara l-bieb.”

  2. ken il malti says:

He looks just like Mr Potato Head. I can’t get past that.

  3. Joe Micallef says:

Well, Labour certainly had a ‘bawzer hara’ on at least one of its billboards.

  4. A Montebello says:

    Class on a stick.

    And no shame whatsoever.

  5. Paul Bonnici says:

Lovely family man, good lessons for impressionable children. Tal-biza’ (frightening).

  6. Blue says:

Let’s just say he votes well.

  7. Paul Bonnici says:

The more I read your blog the more discouraged I become of resettling back in Malta when I retire.

I have been away from Malta 35 years now, and I cannot face people using this language which is the norm in Malta. Hatred for political reasons makes me sick.

  8. ken il malti says:

Speaking of bawzer hara, I took a long walk in my neighbourhood (not in Malta) yesterday and to my surprise a “bawzer truck” with operator, known as a “honey wagon” in the local slang was cleaning out a cesspit by suction that belonged to a small old house.

Apparently the home owner refused the hook-up to the city’s sanitary sewer system many decades ago to avoid the monthly sewer service charge and he even relies on well water for added monetary savings.

  9. Klara says:

    And he’s a teacher.

  10. H. Prynne says:

“Fl-aħħar elezzjoni vvutajt PN. Illum ma rrid nassoċja ruħi bl-ebda mod ma’ dak il-partit” – Albert Gauci Cunningham

    http://patrickattard.blogspot.com/2009/10/illum-labour-aktar-roza-milli-amar.html

I’m sure the PN are missing such a polite, respectable and reserved person such as Mr. Gauci Cunningham.
And this man was allowed to be a teacher? Unbelievable.

  11. lorna saliba says:

He is not only a teacher…he is a valid member of the Pink Mafia.

    • JCM says:

Exactly, he is nothing special. Just an ‘educator’ who has work duties just like everybody else does.

  12. rpacebonello says:

Makes for a great mission statement for the Commission

  13. Sufa says:

Such an eloquent man – perfect for dealing with all those thieves, pimps and scoundrels in the Labour Party.

  14. zunzana says:

Oh my God, surely this hamallu was not appointed to the family commission on meritocracy

    • observer says:

Of course he was, my dear zunzana. Make no mistake.

What did you think il-ginger’s ‘meritocracy’ consists of?

    • charon says:

Zunzana, he had to otherwise Muscat would have risked ending up with a bawzer hara on his doorstep.

  15. M. Cassar says:

Imagine a party with Mrs Muscat’s The High Society, culture appointees and the Family Commission. Oh, joy.

  16. Anna says:

Daphne, I’m warning you, if you’re going to make me lose another good night’s sleep, I’m going to stop reading your blog. I can already envisage a night tormented by shitty dreams.

  17. anthony says:

    The Family Commission?

    Is this a joke?

The guy’s not fit to sit on the family commission of the suino nero dei Nebrodi.

  18. Claude Sciberras says:

    More spite

  19. Tabatha White says:

Why should this obscene and sorry excuse for a man (so inexcusably base) be paraded before all Maltese as deserving of a seat on the Family Commission Board, whose duty it is “to advise Government and make suggestions of appropriate measures to promote the wellbeing of Maltese families, in the context of the rapid social changes that are taking place” (Quotation taken from February 8th, 2012 edition of The Times, when The Commission for the Family was first set up, not as quoted by Malta Today who go to print for May 15th, 2013 stating that Marie Louise Coleiro had just set it up)?

On what basis is he qualified to make recommendations concerning the family?

Because he’s gay? Because he appeared on a Labour billboard?

Is he an expert on family affairs? Does he have relevant qualifications or at least 10-15 years experience in that particular field?

Are the other members of the Board who were put there with him experts?

I found this individual repulsive before the elections:

and am unable to understand what justifies the choice to allow a particular individual of such negative calibre to have anything to do with sensitive decisions regarding the family?

    Is he psychologically sound?

He very evidently has a problem relating to people normally and rationally and The National Commission for the Family ought be one of several areas he should be kept away from.

Is this the degree of respect that Joseph Muscat has for Families in Malta? Is that a foreign concept to him too? Is he prepared to play with what effects Families in this way, all in the name of his elastic meritocracy? Well, well. How enlightening.

How did we get to this stage?

How much lower can he go?

If this subspecies is a niche specific product of the 70’s then I hate to think what products this legislature will produce.

    • ken il malti says:

      Gay is the new black.
If you criticize him over anything, and I mean anything, you are automatically a homophobe and deserve to be hanged, drawn and quartered according to the UN manifesto Nr. 281-BM.

      • Tabatha White says:

In this country, straight is now the new black.

Anything that deviates from straight is feted. For the sake of clarity this time, again I don’t mean sexual preference.

His being gay was as far away from the focal point of my comment as one may wish to speculate. Daphne’s explanation to TL: (http://daphnecaruanagalizia.com/2013/06/it-feels-increasingly-as-though-weve-elected-the-pink-mafia/) hits the nail on the head.

If you read the link to my previous comment you’ll see that his being gay is not, at all, what spurred my comments. It doesn’t make any difference whatsoever to me what he choses to be in life as long as this language does not enter the Malta version of the Oxford Dictionary and Debrett’s etc. as an acceptable and rewarded standard, and the originator of which is then put to service in standard setting for affairs concerning the Family. But if he was, on top of it all, rewarded BECAUSE he was/is gay, then that is setting double standards and discriminating against others in the pertinent pool of merit.

Let me leave you with some quotes. To be clear, they are not directly connected to the comments in question, but to the frame of mind of one who would take the particular tack you were kind enough to elucidate on and of those who would back it, in situations where basic moral and ethical standards are conveniently ignored.

“Men form alliances first not to be stolen from, and then to steal.”

“Legality is the last refuge of a scoundrel.”

“Whatever the world’s greatest criminal mastermind is doing, it’s sure to be legal.”

    • Denis says:

Tabatha , as to how low one can get best refer your remark to Mr. Joseph Muscat who seems to ridicule every entity created for the well being of the family or society.

That is what you get when non valid persons lead a country, they destroy its fundamental roots to ridicule a sound set up.

As if Mr. Muscat was ever suitable to choose the right people.

  20. Leli says:

Madonna kemm hi kerha – hi u Frederick Testa u Kenneth Zammit Tabona l-aktar xebbiet opportunisti li qatt rajt f’wicc id-dinja. Shame on you JA HARA l-intom (Gauci Cunningham’s toxic language is catching).

  21. Joseph Muscat, veru taf x’qed taghmel?

    Jew minn ghalik biss!

Mamma mia, f’hix waqa dan il-pajjiz!

  22. matt says:

What a garbage. What ignorance. What an embarrassment to the nation..
Why does Muscat identify with this trash?

  23. SA says:

It’s a good thing that people like him found their niche within the PL. They are well kept (mal-moviment). X’unur jaghmel lit-teachers.

  24. il-baks says:

Il-bniedem minn kliemu u ghemilu tkun taf x’ inhu. Min jitkellem fuq il-hara huwa hu nnifsu li huwa hekk. Allahares ikun jghallem lit tfal tieghi dan ghax ma nibaghthomx skola zgur.

    • Imperivm Craps says:

Jekk jinzerta jghallem lit-tfal tieghi mhux ma nibaghtx lil uliedi l-iskola imma nirrapurtah lil MUT biex ma jersaqx lejhom, bhalma misshom ghamlu dawk il-genituri li kellhom jitqannew b’daz-zibel.

  25. This is no joke.

These are the standards which the present government sees fit to promote in our families.

Joseph Muscat should not blame anyone for thinking less of him for considering that a person with such vulgar and disgusting ideas merits to be appointed on any board, unless it deals with dirt and drainage.

  26. pizzi says:

He should stick to writing in English; his Maltese is atrociously peppered with grammatical mistakes. As for his suitability for his new post the least said the better.

  27. Str8 says:

I don’t like this language and attitude from anyone, irrespective if the person saying it is in politics or not. It is already bad enough if it is said by a simple ordinary person, let alone by someone in a public office or aspiring to be.

  28. Printer says:

Tghid ghandu bzonn min jifthali dranagg, dan jinqala’?

  29. Luigi says:

I had the impression that this man is a nobody or actually a non-entity. Am I right?
