Will Keith Schembri please give our prime minister a map of the world? So now South Africa is our neighbour.
In the press today:
Dr Muscat said that a Maltese business delegation would visit South Africa in the near future, adding that despite Malta forming part of the European Union and this government having every intention to abide by its rules, this government feels that economic growth can mostly be achieved through the strengthening of ties with countries outside the EU, emphasising on “good neigbourhood”.
I suppose he meant good neighbourliness, rather than good neighbourhood – but in any case, if South Africa is our neighbourhood, I really wouldn’t suggest trying to pop over to borrow a cup of sugar.
And I see that Labour hasn’t yet shed its obsession with our not really needing the European Union because there’s so much business we can do outside it.

“The government feels”. I see we’re in the realm of personal intuition, rather than hard facts and figures.
What sort of economic growth, exactly, is he talking about? How much, in what sectors, to whose benefit?
And he’s a fine one to talk about good neighbourliness. Didn’t he tell us Malta should exploit Egypt’s political turmoil to boost tourism arrivals? And that we’d best not get involved in Libya’s uprising because, you know, Gaddafis people might win?
Tin pot bastard. He should have stuck to Maltastar.
Wait a minute. He said he will deliver another earthquake. Maybe this time the earthquake will be stronger than before and Malta will land somewhere near Cape of Good Hope.
Slowly, slowly, the ties unbind..
They better watch their step down there in South Africa as they are not very fond of strangers and they have a weird way in dealing with them.

I think Muscat might have been speaking on behalf of the Maltese-Australian community here. Still…
Jien dejjem ingib skuza mal-mara li l-Ghadira l-boghod biex immorru gurnata bahar, u dawn qed jghidu li l-Africa t’ isfel gar taghna.
Maybe the suggestion for business with South Africa came from Kevin De Cesare, who has a house there.
Joseph Muscat is a dangerous person.
He would drive Malta to its ruin trying everything in his power to get business from anywhere that is not Europe, in the hope of proving himself right being against Malta joining Europe.
He is so engrossed in his personal glory that his foresight is only directed to that purpose.
We have all seen to what extent his over ambition can drive him, by looking at all the obvious pre-election promises made.
