A baby dies in Gozo, and we even have to bitch about its parents

A tiny baby died in Gozo – a cot death – and beneath the report on the internet, we have the usual stream of charitable comments about the parents.

Here’s a sample:

Ghanaian man and a Nigerian woman? I wonder what persecution they are fleeing in their countries. Ghana and Nigeria are safe countries.

I am sad about the loss of their child.

Joseph – look at what you’ve managed to do in one short week, with your callous threats, actions and statements. Look and be proud of yourself.

You’ve also quickly proven that you know NOTHING about the mindset (in general) of the Maltese population that handed you that resounding victory in March.

Do you REALLY sleep serenely at nights? I really hope not, for the sake of your sanity.

Do you really think that he knows nothing about the mindset of those who voted for him? He knew that inciting racism and xenophobia would win him points among a number of sectors in society and that it would distract attention from the Dalli scandal.

      So he just waded ahead.

Now he’s let the genie out of the bottle and I wonder if it will take some really serious incident to get it back in.

I just hope that nothing irremediable happens but I have lost faith in those who are supposed to be controlling and calming down the situation.

Why does a cot death have to be reported anyway? Isn’t it traumatic enough for the parents without having to read about it in the media?

Why did we have to know the parents’ nationalities in the first place? I suppose that had they been Gozitan, even if foul play was involved, then there’d have been a severe case of omerta’.

I strongly feel that the only reason the nationalities were mentioned in this case is because the parents are both of African origian. Prosit, Muscat.

A cot death is a natural, if rare, event.

Ignorance leading to prejudice is such an abominable disease.

I could not possibly respond to that filth of a comment, in any case it would not be published.

    I am disgusted.
