There’s democracy for you: if you have the support of the majority behind you, you may speak, if not, shut the hell up.
I’ve been thinking, the difficulty in understanding what democracy really means starts in our schools. I remember being taught that democracy is the rule of the majority. I had to fill in the gaps myself by observation and plenty of reading.
Good point. Personally I think we should have some form of introductory course on the EU (how many people are equating the ECHR to the EU?) and civic responsibility & democracy, both being compulsory.
True democracy is rule according to the will of the majority with true respect for the rights of the minority. Some people think mistakenly that respecting the rights of minorities means rule according to the will of minorities.
@Francis saliba MD. Agree with you hundred and fifty per cent. Therefore I expect you and Joe Muscat to respect the rights of immigrants too. Now there’s a minority if ever I saw one.
