A shockingly racist and xenophobic song by Joe Demicoli, composer of Labour ditties – this is what it has come to, thanks to ‘liberal Joseph”

Hatemongering and fearmongering at their very worst. Shame on you, Joe Demicoli. If you think you’re being funny then you have a very sick sense of humour.
Miskin.
I’m sorry about these people, but the problem is too heavy that now it comes over populated.
YES: lets stand to be counted. Malta is first and fore almost.
Is Police Commissioner Zammit still around and watching?
As far as I know Malta has a law dealing with racism.
Bet my last penny Zammit is too busy with other business (not catering, I mean) to notice what is going on.
Yeah, I don’t know what’s so important – he hasn’t got back to me about my mate’s kid’s birthday party yet.
PS – does anyone know if the police provide clowns, or if they are just led by one?
Probably, if they do not provide clowns, they will send you Joseph – the PM by a direct order.
They’re staying at Castile.
One can send an official complaint to the police:

Joe Demicoli (as does Muscat) sinks to new lows, by pandering to the sadly predominant xenophobic character of our nation.
I think you got him wrong. He is making fun of the Maltese bigotry. This is an anti-racism video.
[Daphne – It isn’t. He’s been posting racist ‘jokes’ on Facebook.]
Is it possible that nobody has the authority or at lest the decency to halt all this hatred propaganda? Or does it all have the blessing of our new liberal & progressive PM?
I’m flabbergasted! Simply appalling.
The example must come from the top. If the top echelons of our society are racist, the sheep are going to follow or be a lot worse. Malta’s racism and xenophobia case in point.
Veru DISKA ILLEGALI. Kemm hallas tal-copyright ?
I reported it to Youtube as promoting xenophobia and racism.
I invite others to do the same. You can follow the link from the Flag symbol under the video frame on Youtube.
Yes please, let us all report it, it is a very simple and quick step! I am shocked, disgusted and so hurt. I am ashamed to be Maltese on these days!
I too reported this vulgar and racist song to youtube.
One last push for an iced bun, Joe Demicoli?
This is racist, repulsive and CRIMINAL.
I wonder what some people are thinking – Kenneth Zammit Tabona, Kevin Drake, Michael Falzon, Lino Spiteri, Mark Montebello… and others (you get the drift).
However one voice I would like to hear is George Abela’s.
You can argue that he should not get involved in politics but this is so big.
Malta planning to violate human rights – think he should speak, at least to calm the xenophobic wave that is taking over Malta.
Even though the Community Chest Fund has always helped immigrants I get a feeling that he personally supports the push back idea. I hope I’m wrong.
Tempers are running high among the population, or at least this the feeling I’m getting.
Surprisingly, and shockingly, most seem to be supporting the PM’s stance and calling for the implementation of push-back policy.
With more boats arriving almost daily and people on FB, Times of Malta and other sites inciting action, I fear hell is dangerously close to breaking loose.
Yes I agree. Joseph Muscat is very irresponsible to say the least, unless he wants to switch focus off his Dalli mess. In which case he’s malicious.
They’re just louder – people tend to sound louder when they’re talking out of their arse.
Actually most seem to think that it is Simon Busuttil who stopped the push-back and are saying he “betrayed Malta”.
It is interesting that in the minds of these people, the PN is still in government in spite of the PL’s rather overwhelming majority in parliament. Interesting, that is, once you get over the stomach turning and depressing realisation that you live in a country of xenophobes.
The problem here is Muscat. He should be in control, not whining on Al Jazeera he can’t face the situation.
Gonzi was absolutely right, Muscat failed his first real test.
The mass onslaught of comments is the result of a dim mind in full view.
Has anyone yet challenged Muscat to answer the questions Simon put yesterday?
Did Muscat have an agreement with Libyan authorities?
They remained silent when asked by Net News.
Whatever it is, there’s a real power vacuum at the moment.
This must be his last disgusting effort to please the PL and hope to get his iced bun.
My thought exactly.
So typical of this singer of rubbish lyrics, who will pander to anybody from the backwater of society and I can tell you that his market is not only here but he also satisfies the basic crude emotions of many Maltese emigrants too.
When he travels to give “performances” to Canada or Australia they have to pay and accommodate him and his entourage consisting of wife and daughter usually too. And the audiences take sooooo much pleasure out of his insulting them and listening to the rude obscenities he uses to entertain.
Michelle, tghidx kemm dhaqna b’Demicoli last Sunday, ghax tghidx kemm kien funny jitnejjek bina, imma tal-klandestini l-aktar li dahhqitna u issa qeghda fuq is-CD il-gdida.
Oh God, What a scum singer and idiotic audiences enjoy his garbage.
After yesterday’s action by a number of legal eagles I think it is now about time that they get toghether again and this time file a formal report requesting the Commissioner of Police to institute criminal proceedings against people like Joe Meli, Joe Demicoli and all others who are fanning racism and xenophobia.
Should no action be taken than the lawyers can go for the challenge procedure and get the courts to order the Commissioner of Police to start criminal proceedings.
Another truly shocking thing: http://www.maltapark.com/item.aspx?itemid=2578309&fb_action_ids=10151757668774479&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_source=other_multiline&action_object_map={%2210151757668774479%22%3A1389617367923296}&action_type_map={%2210151757668774479%22%3A%22og.likes%22}&action_ref_map=[]
They think they’re funny – I find it tragic.
I received an invitation from a very xenophobic Calvin Dean, to a demonstration in Valletta on the 4th of August. The event on Facebook is called Demostrazzjoni Favur il-Gvern Malti Fil-Glieda Tieghu Kontra L-Immigrazzjoni Illegali.
Look at his recent comment:
http://s11.postimg.org/y8c932tdf/racistpost2.jpg
Malta’s in good company on Human Rights Watch – http://www.hrw.org/the-day-in-human-rights
Named alongside Egypt, Sudan and Russia
Whether you see it funny or not, and for me its not, its the real situation in Malta.
For the first time today I felt that the only option I had was to walk out of the kitchenette at the office.
Seems like everyone there was supporting push-back. 70 percent of my co workers hold at least a degree.
It is sad to realise that well educated people can’t grasp the concept of human rights. Universal rights.
The bull I heard is shocking. Equally shocking is the point when I found myself explaining (unsuccessfully) that when human life is in danger the only question you should ask yourself is, How can I help? You deal with the logistics later.
Sadly my audience did not want to understand. I walked out.
I’m truly disturbed.
This reflects a comment a made yesterday.
In quite a number of comments, Daphne seems to constantly link support to pushback, support to the PM and xenophobia as an issue of the lower, working classes. Indeed, today was another day, where through my consultancy work which took me to two major business in Malta for meeting with top-level administration, that Muscat is enjoying widespread support even with the so-called professional classes.
[Daphne – You are wrong. I don’t link racism (that’s where support for push-back policy has its source) with the working-class. The most racist people I know are NOT working-class, and theirs is true racism rather than the knee-jerk reactions of the uneducated. They are also among the most narrow-minded and unimaginative people I know – the three go together. It’s a narrow-mindedness that comes from lack of exposure to anything outside the confines of their own clique.]
Academic achievement has very little to do with it. Upbringing is the main issue.
And unfortunately racists are found in all social circles.
Combine widespread racism with a general lack of good analytical thinking, misinformation, an’I’m ok f*** you Jack’ attitude with a government who wants to alarm citizens.
That is exactly why Malta is fertile ground for the likes of Mintoff and Joseph Muscat.
Alfred, that is the result of an ‘insular’ university education.
That figure more or less is reflected nationwide.
I never expected it to be this bad.
What a disgrace.
At my age, it’s too late to weigh anchor, but my two kids will feel all the strength in my right foot up their back side at the first minutest opportunity that presents itself to leave this sad excuse for a people.
“I never expected it to be this bad.”
Most of us are surprised. The gravity lies in the fact that with Muscat, these people feel free to air their sentiments without feeling embarassed or guilty. There lies Joseph’s sin.
When Dr. Fenech Adami was elected in 1987 there were many who felt like taking revenge but he steered us away from that road. That is leadership.
People with degrees aren’t necessarily educated. People without degrees often are.
I am ashamed to be Maltese!
Irregular Immigration is:
Illegal
Dangerous
Disgraceful
Action know.
[Daphne – You never ‘now’, J. Parnis. Perhaps the immigrants can spell.]
With a hindsight, 10 years after, I say that Dr. Alfred Sant and Dr. George Vella were right, when they used to state, ‘Rajna ma jibqax f’idejna’.
Voting for EU membership will be prove to be one of my worst judgments in my life.
With you lot in power, not having “rajna” in your hands is and will continue to be the greatest blessing ever granted to this land.
It was the best one in mine. And by the way it was the ECHR that stopped Joseph not the EU.
But, since we are in the EU, the Government can continue on the work done by the former administration and get funding and maybe some burden sharing (which there has been – where do you think that the majority of the immigrants who came in the past have gone?).
But why am I still trying to reason with close minded and small hearted people who cannot see further than their nose?
No If we were out of the EU we will be prisoners in our own land.
We will be much much worse. It is very hard to even try to think what would happen to us then.
Sur Parnis, Tkunx daqshekk mazzun.
Fl-UE jew le Malta trid tonora l-obbligi nternazzjonali taghha ghax hija firmatarja tal-Konvenzjoni Internazzjonali tad-Drittijiet tal-Bniedem. Il-protezzjoni tar-refugjati taqa’ taht din il-konvenzjoni.
Jekk tkompli tfittex fil-blog posts aktar ‘il quddiem ghandek issib spjegazzjoni aktar dettaljata.
Dwar Joe Demicoli: kont nittolera s-satira politika tieghu (mhux ghax hi fina jew ta’ sustanza) imm’issa b’din id-diska urieni ghal-liema livell kapaci jaqa’.
It’s simply not on. Daqshekk, tilef il-kredtu KOLLU mieghi.
What has the EU got to do with this? If we were not part of the EU then we would have to pay all the expenses ourselves. Within the EU, we are getting financial assistance.
These desperate persons (one has to be desperate to cross the Med on an overcrowded boat) would still come to our shores, even if we are not in the EU.
The European court of Human Rights, is NOT an EU institution, but a Council Of Europe one and as a Signatory to the convention of human rights, Malta has to abide by its decisions. If we were not in the EU, we. would still not be able to push back nor send these individuals to Europe (they would be sent back to Malta together with an accusation of human trafficking)
If you cannot see the difference, then you are really in a bad situation.
What has EU membership got to do with it? Do you think being out of the EU would give anyone the right to be a racist and act upon those evil sentiments? Pathetic.
Parnis it’s either you’re downright stupid or severly depressed. Get some help.
Joe Demicoli is mocking the clicheistic idiocies the xenophobes continuously mouth.
There’s a fine line between mocking them and parroting them yourself. Personally I think in this current delicate situation such things as Demicoli’s are best left unsaid.
I don’t see (or hear) that telling the truth about this dire situation is particularly racist or xenophobic?
I can’t see this going on till eternity without major trouble or rebellion from either side on tiny Malta.
You cannot suppress the obvious truth.
Demicoli is just expressing what the majority thinks when they see these illegal migrants.
Even the most milquetoast, mildest and nicest and quiet Maltese people get their dander up when they see them.
hamallata tas-soltu!
Many people think that there are 17,000 illegal immigrants living off our taxes in Malta.
Truth is racist
I am disgusted. No respect for human dignity.
This is an old song, I am sure I have heard it several times in previous years
It’s unfortunately been around since 2009.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbUh6Jarh60
Daqs kemm hu helu Joe Demicoli, ghandu biex iwaqqa lil haddiehor ghaz-zuffjet. Ara vera ma ghandux mera biex jara persuntu. Qisu z…b go bott.
Disgusting.
There is a report button under the video of the song on Youtube I invite everyone to click on it.
Joe Demicoli’s ‘humour’ is his sentiment and the majority of the Maltese.
It is only the few (maybe a third of the Maltese) that do not feel threatened by these illegal immigrants. If Malta was not an island it will still be the same sentiment.
Who is going to reassure the Maltese that there is no threat? That these are human beings? That these people come here ‘ta fuqhom senduqhom’ and have to start living a free life from the beginning? As things stand even the sight of them is seen as a threat. Why should it be so?
How disgusting, I’m shocked. These are people’s lives the PM is so nonchalantly using for political gain.
Despite it backfiring he is instilling so much hatred. If Muscat is so committed to addressing the problem of illegal immigration, migrants that arrive by sea are the least of the problem.
Despite popular belief the largest number of irregular or illegal migration are those who enter with proper documentation but then choose to stay on past the expiration of their visa.
There is so much misplaced discourse that most people don’t know this, but the PM should know better.
All this aside, his behaviour has been utterly disgusting and reprehensible, he has shown a complete disregard for fundamental human rights and the welfare of the migrants who risked life and limb to get here. Shameful.
…… and not very original at that

Go on, admit it, Daphne me girl. When it comes to tall stories, you’re a skyscraper. You just sit there, killing time, until something crops up and you turn it into a Dan Brown novel. You just can’t help being the God-is-on-my-side crusader waging war on the blasphemous, labourite infidels who are the scum of the earth.
So this is all about racism, isn’t it? These poor, miserable people running away from utter oppression and clutching to dear life on the first rock they bump into. Just like a runaway who seeks shelter in the nearest house he comes across. Naturally, the tenants give him sanctuary and take care of him until he is able to move on to a better, safer place where he can start a new life. I’m sure this “nearest house” isn’t expected to be the permanent lodging of all the runaways who happen to seek asylum. Is this “nearest house” racist because the runaway happens to be black or purple? Will this unfortunate be denied the right to move on to better pastures?
No, this is NOT about hatred. This issue is about taking care of people, especially harassed people, lovingly, adequately and permanently. In Malta there are racists just like in any other part of the world, but this handful of decadents has never stopped us from being generous and hospitable, in our own small way.
So don’t you dare turn these (admittingly) hasty, haphazard government statements into a holocaust. Maybe the people in question ought to have expressed themselves better but comparing them to ruthless racists isn’t even an option.
[Daphne – I have always found sneering, supercilious men, who think the best way to engage me is a challenge-cum-insult of this nature, to be impossibly tedious. It’s been happening all my life since around the age of 15, so queue up.]
