And now the obvious questions arise

Published: July 1, 2013 at 10:54am

We know that hundreds of millions of Gaddafi money were handled by Maltese through Malta or directly with Caribbean tax havens.

We do not know what happened to that money when the Gaddafi family was obliterated.

John Dalli’s explanation to the International Herald Tribune that the money is not his and that he is transferring it for friends for use in a personal project in Africa raises more questions than it answers.

The rental contract for that house in the Bahamas last summer was $8000 a month for three months, and the contract was in the name of Dalli’s daughter, Claire Gauci Borda.

Why would the Dalli family fix on spending three months in the Bahamas last summer? Last summer was the summer of hell for John Dalli: that was when he was all over our television screens and newspapers, telling us that he was being persecuted by the evil Nationalist government/party in league with the Office of the Prime Minister, the secret service and “bloggers”.

It was just before Barroso kicked him out – the right decision, we now know more than ever.

Please, please, don’t tell me this is Gaddafi money. I almost prefer it being snus bribe money. This man is a crook of the worst kind.

  2. Joe Micallef says:

Maybe one should also ask whether those two MEP who have been pretty loud in defence of Dalli, know anything about this?

Some others may also be asked the same question.

That’s what happens when we shelter shady people. They run rampant and cause havoc in our country and internationally.

This goes for both Gonzi, Fenech Adami before him, and now Joseph Muscat who have all acquiesced to this man for far too long.

  4. Bubu says:

And an even more obvious question – where does that leave the Labour administration who rushed in where angels fear to tread, making him responsible for Mater Dei Hospital?

This man seems to be a man of many secrets and whose fingers reside in many pies. What guarantee do we have that he won’t use this appointment as an opportunity for furthering the cause of his substantial bank accounts?

Will Joseph Muscat permit this thoroughly politically (perhaps even criminally) questionable individual to further occupy this sensitive position?

  5. Min Jaf says:

And what has Prime Minister Joseph Muscat got to say about this development, after welcoming John Dalli with open arms and appointing him de facto Minister of Health?

  6. QahbuMalti says:

And then we in Malta carry out checks on people transferring amounts of 20-30K because of international Anti Money Laundering procedures.

Someone should contact Smokin’ Joe Sammut for his opinion.

    Spot on Daphne.

Don’t you just love his ‘Trust which will help people in Africa’?

  9. A says:

“to help people in Africa” – WHICH people in Africa precisely?

That sounds like a politically vague reply if there ever was one.

And if it was philanthropic, why the secrecy? Too humble to let others know his involvement in good works?

  10. Il-Cop says:

    This man has foresight.

Months before the court passed judgement he was already looking for alternative land to compensate the Armier boat house owners.

Probably gowzef was testing him to see if he is up to scratch for the much harder task of reorganising Mater Dei. I mean, he did mention Africa and philanthropic didn’t he.

Rewarding people for committing illegalities is generosity, is it not? Minister Mallia did it. And don’t those boathouses, especially from afar, look just like an African shanty town?

A couple of years ago, Daphne ran a series of posts on this blog about a Mosta accountant known as il-Pixtu, who never denied any association between dealings with the Gaddafi family and the Malta Labour Party.

Can John Dalli now deny that there is any connection between him, Gaddafi money and the Malta Labour Party finances?

And what is the precise connection between Dalli’s daughter and Crystal Finance, which belongs to that other Malta Labour Party apologist Alfred Mifsud?

  12. caflisa says:

So he wants to help people in Africa? What’s their surname?

  13. Makjavel says:

Do we ask again from where did Joseph’s millions for the election campaign come from?
