Here we go again: China’s stooge in the European Union

The Chinese Embassy has released a photograph of the Chinese ambassador’s visit to Finance Minister Edward Scicluna a few days ago. The accompanying release thanks the Maltese government for its support for China as the EU takes anti-dumping measures against Chinese photovoltaic products.
Why are we doing this? We are part of the European Union, and not China’s stooge inside it.

China’s subsidises production of photovoltaics undercutting all competitors in Europe. Then there’s the minor issue of Bosch and Siemens seeing their patents copied like there’s no tomorrow.
Things are coming to a head in Europe, photovoltaics being the tip of an iceberg which France, Italy and Germany want to tackle head on.
Imagine being BMW and seeing your cars with a different badge on some Chinese automaker’s stand.
If this continues, the European market will collapse. It is NOT in our interest to support China. It may be in Labour’s interest but definitely not Malta’s.
How feebleminded is it to destroy existing trade to make way for another? Very 90’s financial bull that.
Good to know we’re out of the Union, let’s just make it official shall we?
Labour was and still is against EU.
because it is difficult to establish a dictatorship as long as we are members of EU.
Very true. What they call ‘foreign interference’ and all that.
Is this the veto on unrelated matter that Malta intends to use? That indicates that any veto in support of China was planned long time ago, possible when Muscat visited China. The immigration issue is the perfect straw and fits in perfectly.
China never ever negotiates a deal with a country unless there is a strategic gain behind it. Please note that China is not interested in any financial gain (say any profit from a business venture in a foeign country) since they do not really need that kind of short term financial gain – they are more strategic than that and always plan long-term, the same way China is exploiting Africa using African dictators and other weak/vulnerable countries..
Is there any doubt that this action by the Labour government which is intended to support China in its energy business will be reciprocated with a discount on the price of the new Made in China gas plant at Marsaxlokk?
Whilst others are extremely worried about the unfair Chinese competition which is costing their centuries old industry considerable amounts of Euros and jobs.

Chinese imports are inferior in quality to anything produced under EU standards, their cars do not meet Ncap regulations in case of a serious collision, crumple zones have no effect in absorbing frontal impacts thus causing serious bodily harm or death to front seat pessengers, studies done in America and Europe show that theses cars are sold in a despicable manner to unsuspecting Chinese consumers.
America and Europe have come a long way to render cars as safe as possible, in the early sixties a US citizen by the name of Ralph Nader took it against the Detroit car giants General Motors and published a book called, ‘Unsafe at any Speed’ In his book he lists certain models manufactured at that time that are unsafe.
At the time Ralph Nader faced nationwide or worldwide criticism but thanks to his persevering, today we have much safer cars, so its no wonder that Chinese imports are banned in the USA and Europe.
I would not be surprised that we will soon have an Agent importing cars from China, and we’ll hear our prime minister bluff that Malta is the first country to import Chinese cars.
Vic, how right you are.
Muscat will do his utmost to create a scenario where it will become difficult for Malta to remain in the EU.
The threat of a veto is no threat at all, but a promise. The immigration issue is another one. All pointing towards a Malta/EU crisis of Muscat’s making. Outside the EU Malta will really become a banana republic, under our dear leader.
Hopefully, these things take time. All we need is 4 years +, but will the switchers realise this?
The government is not only supporting China against the EU, it’s actually supporting an illegal act and, apparently, hindering the EU from defending itself.
Well, China might very well be taking control over our water and electricity in the near future, so we’d better get used to it.
One wonders whether the veto of an ‘unrelated’ issue will be one that happens to be in China’s interest. Two birds with one stone, no?
And yet it is the EU which heavily subsidizes the various PV schemes announced with much fanfare by successive governments.
