Look what the Law Commissioner and Chief of Constitutional Reform is up to nowadays: defending thugs who assault and rob old men
Twist it as he and Joseph Muscat may, this is all so very unseemly. It degrades the position of Law Commissioner and Chief of Constitutional Reform and over and above that, the conflict of interest is too blatant.
It is just so inappropriate to see the Law Commissioner and Chief of Constitutional Reform in court defending a thug who offered to help a man of 79, and instead took him to a garage where he beat him up and robbed him.
Somebody in that position shouldn’t be in court at all, still less in court defending cases like this.
Times of Malta reports:
Hit by car, assaulted and robbed
A man who was hit by a car was then robbed by the people who offered to take him to hospital, a court was told today.
The story emerged during the arraignment of Raymond Psaila, 43 of Zabbar, who was accused of having assaulted and robbed the victim, Saviour Azzopardi, 79 of Marsascala. The case allegedly happened in 2007.
The court heard that Mr Azzopardi was hit by a car which then stopped and the occupants, who included the accused, offered to take him to hospital.
But they instead took him to a garage, assaulted him, took his house keys and burgled his house.
Psaila was granted bail against a deposit of €1,000 and a personal guarantee of €6,000.
Police Inspector Raymond Psaila prosecuted. Drs Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri were defence counsel.

Franco lacks moral guidance. He must be desperate for income to take cases like this.
He’s desperate to remain in power, like most PN switchers. He still didn’t get what he wanted though (a cabinet place), and the fact that he accepted it means that indeed he does lack moral guidance.
He’s a whore. A whore for anyone who promises him power, irrespectable of its magnitude.
Compared to Dalli, this guy’s non-league.
What a disgrace.

‘For all Who Work With Rude Customers, isn’t it a shame WE can’t actually do this!
An award should go to the Virgin Airlines desk attendant in Sydney some months ago for being smart and funny, while making her point, when confronted with a passenger who probably deserved to fly as cargo.
A crowded Virgin flight was cancelled after Virgin’s 767s had been withdrawn from service. A single attendant was re-booking a long line of inconvenienced travellers. Suddenly an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket down on the counter and said, “I HAVE to be on this flight and it HAS to be FIRST CLASS”.
The attendant replied, “I’m sorry, sir. I’ll be happy to try to help you, but I’ve got to help these people first, and I’m sure we’ll be able to work something out..”
The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear,”DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?”
Without hesitating, the attendant smiled and grabbed her public address microphone:”May I have your attention please, may I have your attention please,” she began – her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal.
“We have a passenger here at Desk 14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him find his identity, please come to Desk 14.”
With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the Virgin attendant, gritted his teeth and said,”F… You!”
Without flinching, she smiled and said, I’m sorry, sir, but you’ll have to get in line for that too. ‘
Witty and smart reaction. Should have also been told to (Do You Know Who I Am) Silvio Scerri.
I’m pretty sure it will have been brought to his attention; rats normally have quite an efficient grapevine. That said, I do not wish to engage in any sort of communication with that sort.
he’s a ‘criminal’ lawyer.
Accused people are entitled to a defence lawyer. No one denies this.
This does not mean that any lawyer must therefore take on this task if so requested.
In particular, no lawyer who has been entrusted with the reform of the law should become embroiled in a law case involving the very subject that he is supposed to deal with.
The lawyer may not know any better, but the prime minister/government should.
This should be considered from an ethical point of view rather than legalistic juggling.
But, does this administration know anything about ethics?
Prior to offering help, he ran him over purposely. What a dangerous, deceitful villain.
What is very worrying in Malta is the way the national university dishes out law doctorates. There is no entrance selection and it seems that anyone can be a lecturer (if Silvio Schembri can be on staff, then who can’t?). It is dramatically embarrassing.
In the UK one would used a term borrowed from poultry to describe such a person. I can see this bloke serving Kinnie and those teeth-wrecking galletti in a band club bar but not professing as a legal expert.

Motto to be affixed outside the doors of the offices of the Law Commissioner and of the Chief of the Constitutional Reform:
When I’m off duty, I am either with the birds, or defending criminals. Hekk, hu go fik.
