Malta is Malta, irrespective of which party forms the government

The Labour government shows scant understanding of the differentiation between ‘Malta’ and ‘the individuals forming the government of Malta’.

The European Court of Human Rights has decided several cases against Malta, about matters which occurred prior to 1987, handing down its judgement AFTER 1987 when Labour was no longer in government.

I don’t recall anyone in the Nationalist government releasing a statement saying: “It wasn’t us. It was them.”

Cases in the European Court of Human Rights can only be filed by individuals against states, not against parties in government. It’s always Mrs X versus Turkey, or Mr Z versus Malta, or Miss B versus Italy.

Yet that has not stopped our government (via a statement released by Manuel Mallia, who is apparently now calling himself Home Affairs rather than National Security) from saying, re the judgements handed down against Malta today:

In a statement, the Home Affairs Ministry said the situation it inherited in the sector was a difficult one.

It said it was sad to note that the European Court decided against Malta because of the situation under the previous government

Wasn’t it sad for the Home Affairs Minister that his leader wanted to embark on a push back policy, only a couple of days ago?

If anyone was wondering where and what the NGOs were doing pre-Ascent of Labour, I guess these two judgments are quite a good answer!

God Bless, our very own Theresa May. I suppose he hasn’t adopted the title Home Secretary because the word secretary has different connotations for most Maltese.

You phone your bank or some other big corporation to query something about a service you received and the employee starts dissing and awfulising other colleagues his/her employer. How professional is that?

They blame the previous government, but did Labour ever condemn the conditions in detention centres?

Did they ever push for more investment in the detention centres?
