Plagued by the affairs of state, the prime minister spent yesterday on a yacht with three men
And on the seventh day, God rested.
Unperturbed by the scandal swirling round his newly appointed Health Czar John Dalli, the prime minister spent yesterday relaxing aboard businessman Paul Muscat’s Bavaria 39. He arrived with another two men at around noon at the boat’s Mellieha berth. They put out at lunchtime and returned at around 7pm.
Meanwhile, they were seen at Comino (how original – and how very private).
Paul Muscat is married to the prime minister’s matronly mentor, Phyllis Muscat, who made a small fortune importing face creams and other beauty products. She has latched herself onto Michelle Muscat but is much older and also lacks Elena Zammit Lewis nee Bagollu’s smarter social network, so Mrs Muscat is more often seen with the latter than with the former. Phyllis Muscat, however, travels with the prime ministerial couple and mothers the prime minister as a way of maintaining a strangehold on him.
She did the same with his predecessor Alfred Sant, offering him refuge for days at her Santa Maria Estate villa after he lost his third general election in 2008, which indicates that it is not so much the man she is interested in as the position and the access.
Phyllis Muscat has been appointed a member of some cultural board, presumably on the basis that she is excellent at convincing women to buy face creams, while her husband Paul has been appointed to the board of the Malta Maritime Authority, presumably on the basis that he bought a Bavaria 43 three years ago and so is a maritime expert.
And now here’s something that really must be said. When a married man with two small children chooses to spend the whole of his only day off out cruising on a boat with friends, rather than with his family, we have to look askance at all that dragging-about of those very same small children on government delegations overseas, to evening receptions and to late-night fashion-shows for the cameras as being little more than a cynical marketing ploy.

Muscat in a budgie smuggler, owmigawd.
The Bavaria 43, square and reliable. With cutting edge toilet flush technology.
How very Maltese, the equivalent of a Volvo estate to take a kitten to the vet, next door.
U Iva, xi darba naghmlu l-Middlesea.
Paul and Phyllis Muscat are old enough to be Joseph’s parents. Paul Muscat was part of the extreme left-wing and Soviet nostalgic group of the 70s (Paul Muscat, Evarist Bartolo, Mario Vella, Alfred Sant and Saviour Vella) who are, incredibly, still lurking around.
Now that they have grown older, they have found the perfect immature and spoiled stooge.
Michelle was there too…hiding under a floppy white hat, with children in tow. Whilst Joseph was showing off his untoned belly.
One wonders whether Super One will spend the next year telling us about how the Prime Minister holidayed aboard a yacht owned by businessman Paul Muscat and who the other two men were.
Why does this remind me of the furore about a present of a DIY Tal-Lira clock falsely claimed to cost thousands of euros and that other furore about a lift on a private jet to a football match?
And Joe Saliba aborted holiday on Vassallo’s yacht.
This was poor judgement by the the PN and Tonio Fenech in particular but do not expect the PL to be judged by the same yardstick. Its been said many times before on this blog, PL are held accountable to much lower standards.
Kemm damu jsemmuha il-mawra ta’ Joe Saliba fuq il-yacht u il-mawra ta’ Tonio Fenech fuq l-ajruplan. Issa dawn l-affarijiet saru accettabbli. Fejn hu il-Partit Nazzjonalista?
Mela issa OK mmorru fuq l-yachts tal-kuntratturi?
Qabda faccoli, Issa kollox lecjtu.
Paul Muscat, Evarist Bartolo and Mario Vella are first cousins. Paul’s father, Evarist’s mother and Mario’s mother were siblings. Paul’s sister in law is aunt to Johann Buttigieg [CEO MEPA].
I’m afraid you have got it all wrong. This Mario Vella is not the one related to Evarist Bartolo. Paul’s father is an uncle of Evarist’s mother and not as you are stating.
