    Prime Minister Joseph Muscat had better obtain some serious and decent explanation of this episode involving police RHIBS being used on leisure trips for sunbathing by members of the police force and, as claimed by them, some German visitors on an “attachment” exercise.

    Only a couple of weeks ago, Muscat was “stamping his feet” and “standing up to be counted” (?) on the international TV network Al Jazeera, in the middle of a crisis of his own making, trying (in vain) to justify his attempt to violate the human rights of immigrants who had been rescued from the sea by pushing them back to Libya and depriving them of their right for asylum – a violation that was not committed only because the ECHR issued an order to Muscat’s government.

    Muscat told the TV network how Dr. Emmanuel Mallia – his Minister of National Security, the Army, the Police, Broadcasting, the Navy, Catering and Leisure Boat Trips – keeps him awake at night with phone calls to inform him how the Maltese ‘navy’ was unable to cope with the wave of illegal immigrants arriving on Malta.

    Here we are two weeks later, discovering how police hardware which should be used for patrol, security and assistance at sea, is being used instead by members of the force in uniform, and without uniform, for leisure trips and sunbathing sessions.

    At this point, how is Dr. Muscat expecting Europe (and the rest of the world, including us) to take him seriously about his claim that ‘the navy’s’ resources are stretched and that he needs more help with burden sharing?

    Must say that Mallia’s ‘navy’ has given a new meaning to ‘burden sharing’ on board of those two police RHIBS.

    These RHIBs are funded through the Structural Funds to patrol our coasts and not for the girls to bronze their ass. Brussels do take note please.
