It’s the way Dalli conducted himself after being alerted by Silvio Zammit that makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.
Dalli does not contact OLAF and does not distance himself from his old buddy who has just supposedly ruined his reputation.
Instead he took the decision, as an EU Commissioner, to lie to the OLAF investigators in the first hour of his first interview.
Here is a EU Commissioner, vilified by ‘a wide world conspiracy’ as being a crook and bribe-taker, who then sees elegant wisdom during the investigation in secretly zapping off to the Bahamas and zapping back to EU business before being missed. And lying about his whereabouts.
Here is a EU Commissioner, so ‘cruelly accused of dishonesty’, saying today that no member of his family rented a villa in the Bahamas, because “it was a company owned by” his daughter which rented it (choke).

Actually, he said it was a company MANAGED by his daughter that rented the Bahamas villa.
Yes, right. And Bill Clinton did not have sex with that woman.
As a way of repairing the damage done to the public image of the police corps after the recent Cops Caterers episode, shouldn’t Peter Paul Zammit go back to the X Files about the J Dalli BA case and resume the investigations?
It seems that there is new substantive information about the case.
Would it not be nice to lead an investigative mission to the Bahamas?
Saviour Balzan must be kicking himself after this Bahamas revelation, especially after that impassioned, albeit slightly unhinged, speech he gave in European parliament last week, when he was invited by that other paragon of virtue, Adrian Severin.
The conference, entitled ‘Political “Assassination” and Double Standards’ was organised by Severin, who seems to have discovered euro-scepticism after being expelled from his old group after illicit lobbying.

Meanwhile, Lou Bondi could be producing the definitive edition of Bondi+, the one which will go down in history, the one which will turn him into the Maltese David Frost.
Too bad he’s busily caught up working for the government he should be investigating.
