Why is John Dalli’s ‘I hold my father’s interests’ daughter a director of Alfred Mifsud’s Crystal Finance company?
On 18 January this year, Claire Gauci Borda, one of John Dalli’s two daughters who hold his business interests, was made a director of Alfred Mifsud’s financial services company, Crystal Finance.
Alfred Mifsud is a former chairman of the Labour Party’s broadcasting arm, then called Super One. He is a prime mover in the Labour Party. Like Dalli, he has a troublesome brother. Tarcisio Mifsud was arrested, interrogated and arraigned in the oil bribery scandal a few months back – hoist by his own party’s petard, so to speak.
Crystal Finance gave Joseph Muscat his only employment outside the Labour Party until he became an MEP in 2004.
Why was Mrs Gauci Borda made a director in the first place, and more specifically, last January?
There is no evidence of any Dalli shareholding. The shares in Crystal Finance are held by two companies – La Laguna, which belongs to the Schembris listed as directors, and AM 1951 (his initials and year of birth), which belongs to Alfred Mifsud.

Alfred Mifsud was one of the harshest critics of John Dali when the latter was minister of finance, in particular when Alfred Mifsud was removed as Chairman of Mid-Med bank and MMB sold to HSBC.
Alfred Mifsud tried, to no avail, to organize the minority shareholders then to block any moves by HSBC.
Vehemently anti-EU also. I asked him at the time how he could sleep at night. He responded, ‘no problem sleeping’

Maybe, Mifsud realised that Johnny Cash had the cash.
