Ah, a spine hoves into view at last – I haven’t seen one of those for some time
Good going, Jean Pierre.
Isn’t it just typical of this sleazy government to go gunning for those who they think have been made vulnerable to overtures of this nature by spite, bitterness, lack of spine and an opportunistic, majtezwel nature?
How refreshing to see that in this case, they overshot their mark.
The Malta Independent reports:
Former Nationalist MP Jean-Pierre Farrugia has turned down the opportunity to sit on a government board, citing loyalty to his voters as the reason behind his decision.
“Although the Foundation for Medical Services is directly in my line of expertise, I have refused an appointment on its board out of loyalty to the 1,118 voters who showed their trust in me, not because I don’t want to contribute,” he said.
Speaking to The Malta Independent, Dr Farrugia explained he feels he would be used politically if he was to sit on one of either the two boards he was asked to be part of. “Loyalty is loyalty,” he stressed, “even though I have differences with my party”.
Before being offered the post of FMS board member, Dr Farrugia was asked by Parliamentary Secretary Jose Herrera to form part of the Heritage Malta board.
While Dr Farrugia refused to sit on either of the two boards on two different occasions, his name was published in the list of FMS board members on 31 May issue of the government gazette.
To his surprise, people were calling about these appointments right till this very day, which led Dr Farrugia to write a letter to the Health Minister.
In the letter he sent today, and which he posted on Facebook, Dr Farrugia explained the situation and said that while on the first instance (the Heritage Malta board appointment) he had made his decision to refuse public, on this occasion he did not feel the need to explain himself publicly again. Yet, since his named is still being linked, he decided to announce his refusal in public.
Dr Farrugia had retired from politics after failing to get elected in the March election.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Well done, Jean Pierre.
This is what standing up to be counted really means.

My thoughts exactly and I made a point of leaving a comment on The Malta Independent, though the best comment under the same article is that of the incredible Eddy Privitera.
Good on you, Dr. Farrugia. I am sure that your action draws the admiration of far more than the 1,118 voters who trusted you in the elections.
What deserves admiration is not just the loyalty to your party, but your unwillingness to join a government of clowns who say they have a British sense of humour but who are in fact a very dangerous lot.
Jean Pierre may also have made noises whilst on the backbench of the previous government but I am sure that he was always well meaning. Unlike those other empty vessels.
Incidentally excellent column in The Malta Independent yesterday, Daphne.
Prosit Jean-Pierre. You’ve always been a man of principle.
You’ve done yourself proud, Jean Pierre. If only there were more who followed your example, votes or not.
Prosit tassew Jean Pierre.
Ezempju car ta’ kif ikunu l-irgiel ta’ principju sod.
Allow me to echo your thoughts on this Daphne ‘Ah, a spine hoves into view at last – I haven’t seen one of those for some time’. Thank you Dr JP Farrugia – that’s how it should be – your consituents are proud of you.
JeanPierre was always loyal to thePN .He had his father as an example of integrity, loyalty serviceand steadfastness even in the face of all threats that he suffered under the Mintoffian regime
Jean Pierre, I know exactly how you feel.
You have done the right thing.
You have done what your father would have expected you to do. A man of principle and a true gentleman he was.
Now you can walk with your head held high.
I left a comment on The Malta Independent in which I compared Jean Pierre Farrugia’s action to that of Jesmond Mugliett, Franco Debono, Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, as well as Lou Bondi who grabbed the bun Joseph Muscat handed him.
I remember when Muscat said on Bondiplus that ‘The End Justifies The Means’, and when Lou accepted he must have remembered this saying and said to himself why not.
Can someone update the list of the traitors/opportunists?
The obvious ones that worked hard for an MLP victory (i.e. future personal opportunities) are the Health ‘Minister’, JPO, John Bundy, the Law Commissioner, Frank Portelli, and Michael Falzon.
In addition there are the token appointments such as Martin Fenech, Frans Agius, Helen D’Amato, Michael Frendo (does he count?).
Anybody else?
I may be wrong, but I do not think that Dr. Michael Frendo should be included with this lot.
Well done Jean Pierre.
Well done Dr. Farrugia. U din ghall Dr. Gonzi.
Kellek ghallinqas deputat li kien, ghadu u ser jibqa leali lejn il partit u int warrabtu.
Prosit hafna
Prosit Dr. Farrugia
It is so heartening to see that real gentlemen of principle do exist, even though in a small number nowadays.
JPFarrugia has turned out to be more of a gentleman than Lou Bondi, JPO, Frank Portelli, Mugliett, Franco Debono, Martin Fenech and Michael Falzon put together.
Too bad that the PN never fully appreciated people of your ilk.
Prosit Dr. Jean Pierre.
There is a trend of setting up monuments to “traitors” – e.g. Dom Mintoff who, up to some time ago was labled as traitor by the Malta Labour Party. Now I expect Franco Debono to plead with the Nationalist Party to start fund-raising for a monument to be erected as a PN traitor
Prosit Dr. Jean Pierre A man of sound values and principles, yes, a pride to your family and the PN
Prosit ta veru
Prosit tassew, ragel ta’ valuri sodi.
Well done Jean Pierre….a real hero.
