    As you wrote, inevitably.

Notice also the reference to the bird issue, something that has emotive connotations amongst Europeans. This little escapade is going to have consequences.

But hey, we’ve got Joseph. When he isn’t busy walking on water, he’ll be splitting the loaves to feed the multitude.

  2. Anthony Farrugia says:

Oh come on! Can’t you read its a total of 5 posts (first of which dates back to July 2012!!)

Next tweet by the Prime Twat:

  4. Natalie Mallett says:

Ifrah Prim Ministru Joseph Muscat ghax dak li bnew in-Nazzjonalisti f’25 sena int irnexxilek tkissru f’inqas minn hames xhur.

Issa naraw minn fejn ha tmur titkarrab ghall-flus tal-bail out ghax f’inqas minn sena ha tkun tfajt pajjiz gass down gol-hajt.

Kemm kellhom ragun Dr.Lawrence Gonzi u Dr. Simon Busuttil fil-mass meetings ta qabel l-elezzjoni.

  5. cettina says:

It is so embarrassing to be Maltese at the moment.

Rai Tre this evening, report at 19:40.

And that, my dears, is the European orthodox left. Rai Due and Rai Uno followed, no editing, no slants.

Someone wrote a comment complaining that reports ignored our ‘supplies’. Yeah right, mhux fier.

  7. Floating says:

You think it is the summation of public opinion abroad, in general. I assure it is not. The public opinion in Europe is wholesome against illegal immigration. Many other people, whether you know it or not are supportive of Malta and its stance. It is also in blogs. You search and you see.

This is not the first Boycot Malta. And apparently this is about hunting mostly, with only one comment about the issue. They can be Maltese people in disguise for all we care.

But if they do not want to come, let them not come. Many others will come.

    • Catherine says:

Just because I am sick of bad English and feel it my duty to educate (to the limited extent possible) at least one of my fellow country savages. So, I think you mean:

      1) You think it is representative of public opinion…and “overwhelmingly” not “wholesome” (that’s a word you use for bread or your granny, though maybe not in this case with respect to the latter)

      2) I assure YOU

      3) Public opinion does not take the definite article

      4) “It is also in blogs”: you cannot use it because it is not clear what “it” refers to. I suppose you mean “evidence of this is also found in blogs”

      5) “You search and you see”: You must mean, “Evidence of this is available should you wish to find it”.

      6) This is not the first time there has been a move to boycott Malta

      7) “…only one comment about the issue”. What issue? You would need to clarify: I presume you mean “recent events”

      8) “They can be…”who is they? Do you mean bloggers, commentators, tweeters?

      9) ..for all “we” care…is this the royal “we”? Or are you some sort of messiah who speaks on behalf of many? No, I didn’t think so, so don’t use “we” (I’m sure you aren’t royal either)

Also, while I am at it, a word on your logical progression through this argument.

      1) “I assure it is not”: whether many other people agree or not is neither here nor there and has no bearing on how we feel about the fact that many people think Malta is a racist backwater; you see, we disagree with the people who agree with you (no, really?)

      2) “…they can be Maltese people in disguise for all we care”: yes, I am slightly baffled by this one, as this is clearly the Italian media, so unless several Maltese Neanderthals have infiltrated the media there…well, you can see where I am going with this one, surely.

      3) “Many others will come”: a slightly hopeful supposition in the current economic climate.

Thank you. I am here all week.

      Regards,
a bored student (and her dog, who contributed point number 3 in section 2)

      • Karl says:

reading this made my day :)

      • Catherine says:

Glad to be of service. I fell into the trap of saying we, but beg forgiveness on the grounds of being a sane person seeking to affirm the much-needed feeling that there are others like me. Desperate times.

  8. La Redoute says:

Stand by for a Twitter torrent of illiterate abuse against forrinerss because, you know, Twitter’s Maltese.

  9. vincienne says:

    shame on us!

  10. Floating says:

Other countries did the same. If you care to see what is happening around you. Including Italy. There were no boycotts.

    • Dave says:

Sure. Give them 5 more months and we will be floating alone on this fish-shaped rock.

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

Oh really? Except Italy was never led by a prime minister who had campaigned against EU membership. You and many others (about 200,000 others) fail to realise that.

  11. Ryan Portelli says:

While agreeing that the attitude shown by some ‘Maltese’ (find it hard to use the same definition that defines me too) is somewhat disgusting, I still cannot understand how can we consider Malta as a vile nation (because of excessive and sometimes insensible hunting) when countries in the EU are pro-abortion, pro-euthanasia etc.

I think we are getting our priorities wrong. On the other hand, is illegal immigration a problem? Definitely. Is this the way to deal with it? I doubt it.

  12. N.Bugeja says:

While I DO agree with Muscat’s decision to stand his ground, I despise the fact that he has the cheek to come on TV and say that Malta’s reputation has not been tarnished.

I would respect him more had he said that he took a risk and, even though Malta may be looked at differently, this attitude will change once they see that he was right.

    Amateur move, Muscat, amateur move.

  13. pale blue my foot! says:

Joseph Muscat doesn’t give a hoot about the harm he is causing Malta. Votes are more important to him, and the nature of the Maltese elector is such that damage to our country’s reputation is not a factor at the polls.

  14. numerus says:

I am so very happy for Mr Zahra and Mr DeCesare – would love to see their comments in the coming months. Where is the MHRA to protect its members interests?
