Miss Sciberras announced the appointment herself in the very manner for which she was disciplined by her employers last summer: on Facebook.

Facebook and other social media have become a virtual minefield for employees, whose employers are known to have a good rifle through their profiles and photos before hiring and even while in employment.
And a number of companies have very strict rules on how their employees conduct themselves on social media websites. But matters take on a whole new dimension when public figures or diplomats take to the social media to vent their personal issues.
One such instance came to this newspaper’s attention earlier this week when a person in the diplomatic service, who has also served as a Labour Party local councillor for Birkirkara, took to the very public Facebook website to vent her frustration over the way in which she perceives the county is being run.
Chirelle Sciberras, who joined the foreign ministry earlier this year as second secretary, has posted a number of Facebook comments that are rather derogatory and shall we say, undiplomatic, towards the government and which are altogether inappropriate to the merits of her position as well as to the associated code of ethics.
It is all well and good to be Socialist and to be a Labour Party supporter, neither of which excludes one from holding a position in the public service, certain comments that have been made as recently as last month are wholly unbefitting of someone in the foreign service.
As recently as last month, Miss Sciberras posted a number of clear anti-government tirades on her Facebook page such as: “Gvern bla maggoranza…JPO jirrizenja mil Grupp Parlamentari Nazzjonalista!” (Government without a majority, JPO resigns from Nationalist parliamentary group); “Loves watching PN soap on TV every day!.. its (sic) so hilarious!!!”, ‘Flimkien kollox Possibbli!! u rega ghola il-prezz tal-petrol!’ (Together everything is Possible!! – the PN’s last election slogan – and the price of petrol goes up again) and “in the meantime the government of GonziPN gives hi (sic) pay rise of 500Euros (sic) weekly! What a farce!”

I’m so grateful that I’ve just finished my university studies.
Sadly enough, these (sponsorships, industry-tailored courses….) are policies that are becoming popular world-wide. It seems that PL has become very right-wing.

All these promotions, jobs for the boys and girls, etc. and the people still seem to be stunned or rather one can feel the inertia all around.
I recall an RAF saying ‘who dares wins’ which fits the present government to a glove.
They keep pushing and shoving ahead and get as far as they dare to and no ones seems to bother. Quo Vadis Malta ?
SAS motto is “who dares wins” , not RAF.
Presumptuous is the word for this kind of people and “fools rush in where angels fear to tread” fits this government perfectly.
RAF motto is Per Ardua ad Astra, ‘through adversity to the stars’.
Probably the most fitting motto would be the one for the (now disbanded) Catering Corps, with a little modification:
WE SUSTAIN (OURSELVES)
For information purposes, the motto of the RAF is “Per Ardua ad Astra”, which is loosely translated as, “Through Struggles to the Stars”.
The stunned silence happens to be humble pie.
Alas, the Maltese tend to react only when the consequences turn individual.

No they don’t. They been invited to use the Ritz as premises.

I reckon that’s M n M World in London (a big industrial sweet shop with crap for kids). Unfortunately when the Maltese travel to London all they do is visit the high streets shops (mainly M n S, Primark [they don’t realise that only their crap stuff is cheap] and Carphone Warehouse).
In 50 years of regular business and leisure travel round Europe I have never (yes, never) come across a single Maltese person at a concert, an art exhibition, in a museum or in a park. However seeing Maltese hovering round shops, that’s daily business.

If your photos are set on ‘public’ mode that already says a lot about you.
A person passing such politically laden comments in public is not fit to be a civil servant, still less a diplomat.
Thank God that I left the civil service with all these comedies taking place now.
The lady certainly cannot say her politics were a barrier to her getting an education and a job during the previous administration.
And who calls their daughter Chirelle?
