Gozo Heliport – as requested, for comparison’s sake
One of the Labour government’s new appointees to the board of Gozo Heliport, Christina Sammut. She replaces in that position the chief executive officer of MIMCOL and MGI.
A reader sent in the following question yesterday about the board of Gozo Heliport, in the midst of all the criticism about Economy Minister Chris Cardona’s new appointments to that board:
So who were the previous directors namely Ivan Falzon, Charmaine Mallia Martin and Vincent Mifsud all of whom were appointed under the previous government. I did not have time to try to research them but their names are not familiar to me.
Whereas now it is clear on what basis certain appointments are being made, I would genuinely like to know how the same appointments were made in the past. Were these people hbieb tal-qalb of some former PN minister?
This is the relevant information required:-
Ivan Falzon was the executive chairman of MIMCOL (Malta Investment Management Company Limited)
Vince Mifsud was CEO of MIMCOL and MGI (Malta Government Investments)
Charmaine Mallia Martin is a MIMCOL executive
The previous government’s policy was to place MIMCOL and MGI executives and senior management staff on government investment boards, because it was their job/duty to manage those very investments. The appointments were not political or linked to favours or favouritism.
So what we have here is a situation in which this government, through the agency of Economy Minister Chris Cardona, has replaced a board of directors composed of the MIMCOL chairman, the MIMCOL/MGI CEO and a MIMCOL executive with Labour ex-magistrate Denis Montebello’s daughter Rachel who shares an office with Labour billboard girl and Zejtun Mintoffjana Ramona Frendo, Mintoff’s doctor Anglu Psaila’s daughter Angela, and barely literate Labour councillor and Malta Taghna Lkoll painted face video girl Christina Sammut (pictured).

Does the appointment of John Busuttil (il-busu) as one of the four ‘One TV Breakfast Show’ presenters, shut up the nationalists’ mouth of complaining that Malta Taghhom Ilkoll ?
Il-Busu was always considered as a sly opportunist by those who truly know him. Being on the party’s payroll does not automatically mean being a loyal supporter of that same party.
This is like someone who marries his/her spouse for their fame and money, but starts drifting to other successful pastures as soon as the power of their ‘loved’ ones is lost.
You hit the nail on its head…yes I think most of the switchers who are nearing their pension age have ‘betrayed’ their principles, knowing that Joseph Muscat would do his utmost by promising them heaven on earth. Some have already been successful.

You have just highlighted the difference between the Labour government and the Nationalist government. I am so proud to be part of the minority.
That leaves quite a few vacancies for “consultants”.

Can we assume that that the former directors held the post as part of their MIMCOL duties and were not due any significant allowances for their directorships on what should have have been a non-operating company for the last few years.
Should we also assume that the new directors will be in receipt of fees as remuneration for their directorship?

I am starting to understand what was meant by the ‘Malta Taghna Lkoll’ battle cry: it meant that all professional people in positions of responsibility would be removed and replaced by the ‘popolin’ — a kind of neo-communist approach.
There you have it: communism by stealth.
“Malta Taghna Lkoll” is Malta’s cultural equivalent of Pol Pot’s effort to create a peasant farming society.
