At moments like this you just want to crawl behind a large rock and sit there for a while, right?
These people writing to Mrs Malmstrom on her official Facebook page, totally oblivious to the fact that it is not her personal ‘FB’ in the way theirs is, and that it is run by her staff, are now a parody of themselves.
Take this Lawrence Castagna, for example. He tells her that he is “all the way Behind my GOVERNMENT AND MY PRIM MINISTER JOESEPH LIKE ALL THE MALTESE PEOPLE SURE ARE!!!”. And then, without making it clear that he is addressing ‘Joeseph’ and not Mrs Malmstrom, he continues, “KEEP FERM WE ARE ALL BEHIND YOU IN BODY AND SOLE”.

Dear Commissioner Malmstrom,
Will you please explain to us the Maltese people living on an Island of the size of nineteen by eight miles can hold this invasion by the rate of fifty illegal emigrants per day?. Can you please explain so called asylum seekers so much needed In EU, as you say, nobody seem willing to take them on board?. Will you please explain how the Maltese Government is being forced by you to obey The EU directives, and at the same time you are conveniently over seeing that we have Laws on the Island TOO!!Our law say that no one is entitled to enter without a permit. Therefore It is time to admit that this are no asylum seekers at all, but they are economic seekers and the more one can admit this the sooner the better! And so they do not qualify in any legal law what’s so ever for them to stay on the Island. And the EU if said that they are in need of men power, what is it that keeping the EU to established proper channels, so they can come in an orderly way? WE ARE FULL UP TO THE LIMIT ! Will you please clarify, is it a fact that the EU expecting us that no mater the number of illegal economic seekers that arrive on the Island will be kept here? if so this is INSANE.

I’d like to sit behined (!) a big rock for the next 5 years at least, and hope that I’ll be able to come out then.
This is one of the major cons of the digital age – exposing the ignorance of people to the world. And it’s even worse when it occurs in sensitive situations like this, en masse and in a way that portrays an entire nation.

When will the Prime Minister and the Leader of Opposition explain to these idiots in clear and unambiguous terms, that immigrants who land on our shores even without any documents are not breaking any national laws provided they apply for asylum status?
Yes they ARE breaking our laws. If you are blind, it’s not my fault. But the laws are to be obeyed and enforced. Those persons without travelling documents are breaking the law, therefore criminals. The idiots are those who want to push millions of illegal immigrants into our tiny island, which is not on.
It is not illegal to enter a country without personal documentation when you are seeking asylum.

This island is getting more unbearable as each day goes by. I’m glad I’m not going abroad anytime soon because it would have been excruciatingly embarrassing to present a Maltese passport.
As someone recently said on your blog, we were proud to be Maltese under a PN government, but 5 months under Labour is already tarnishing our reputation.
It is amazing that these ‘Europeans’ are calling Joseph a hero.
He is someone who changed the perception the world had of Malta and Italy in one day. It is Italy which is now considered humanitarian and Malta the heartless Catholic country.

Daphne, you should not accept any comments which have more than two or three spelling mistakes, in either English or Maltese. This might bring about an improvement in our written languages.

Malmstrom offered to speed up the process for this group, Muscat declined. He said so himself. If he didn’t consider it a solution, doesn’t mean it wasn’t.

What makes me cringe most is that many like this Lawrence here think that they are in the right and that their English is adequate for communication. They write in a language reminiscent of two old man chatting in Maltese at ‘is-Serkin’ over a pastizz and a glass of tea, Lejbor flag ‘viva joeseph’ in one hand and bird in a cage on the table.
If I had to write to any commissioner, I would first get my document checked by a professional before sending it, because my English writing skills are not perfect.
