Silvio Scerri/ZER 088 update (he probably regrets asking whether we know who he is)

Silvio Scerri 3

Silvio Scerri’s silver BMW which now carries ZER 088/GM14 plates, depending on the occasion, was bought five years ago by the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre (MFCC), of which he was a shareholder at the time, for €16 949 (excl VAT), as a company car.

It was bought overseas, not from a Malta dealership, and driven down to Malta.

Silvio Scerri and another director at his company Nexos Technologies, Jesmond Bondin, were chairman and director at the MFCC.

The purchase was entered into the MFCC books on 31 March 2011. A month later, on 6 May 2011, the MFCC sold it to Nexos Technologies for €10,300 (incl VAT).

That car is still singing for its supper. Now Silvio Scerri, installed as head of secretariat to the Police Minister, is loaning it to his boss “to save money”.

Wow… a car depreciating at least 7000 Euro in a month. That’s amazing, even more so for a highly desirable BMW.

It’s worse than that. If one takes VAT into consideration, the car was bought for €20k, and promptly ‘sold’ one month later for just half the price (€10k)!

While the car sings for its supper, is Silvio Scerri waiting for a VAT refund according to Joseph Muscat’s electoral promise?

  3. Allo Allo says:

If the car was bought five years ago, then why was the purchase entered in 2011?

Not at all. It’s a good question for I myself still don’t know who he is.

    Lovely accounting “loss”

  7. Wayne Hewitt says:

So are you saying that ‘Nexos Technologies’ are leasing the car to the Ministry? Which would explain why the Minister said Silvio Scerri is personally not getting any money for it, but might have purposely missed to mention that his company is, however?

Needs a direct question to the Minister, and hopefully a direct answer.

Isn’t there a law against this?
