Today Silvio Scerri’s personal car (registration ZER 088) was again photographed with tied-on GM14 plates, parked in its usual reserved slot outside the Ministry for National Security, which has now been given its former name again, the Ministry of Home Affairs – a fact that passed by unnoted and unremarked on.

Perhaps they woke up and smelled the coffee: that ‘Ministry for National Security’ sounds cringe-makingly fascist/far right, and that it is particularly embarrassing when the Minister for National Security looks like Humpty-Dumpty’s grandpa might have done after cruising the Med for three months and seeing nothing but the interior of a buffet hall.

The press really needs to pick this up. The regulations specify that GM plates may only be worn by the official cars of government ministers.

Silvio Scerri – we know who he is now, lucky him – is not a government minister. He heads a government minister’s private secretariat.

The press must ask: why has his car been given GM plates?

  1. La Redoute says:

Why is the Minister of Home Affairs enabling his chief of staff to break the law?

  2. Jozef says:

    Reserved for disabled badge holders.

    Reserved for residents only.

Then look at the one set up by the gvern li jisma’. Priceless.

  4. CIS says:

A very dangerous man, this Mr Scerri. Does Manuel Mallia control him, or does he control Manuel Mallia?

  5. Sparky says:

How can i get those fancy plates? Looks like every man and his dog can…

  6. TROY says:

While all this is happening, may I ask what the hell Simon Busuttil is doing about it?

  7. Josette says:

I think the law also says that your car’s number plates must be on display and in this case they are clearly not.

  8. Mark says:

Tried to get a shot of this but the soldier on duty outside the ministry seemed a bit threatening.

  9. Gigi says:

I think he has broken the law twice, by putting GM plates when he is not supposed to and by making the number 4 rather illegible with the plastic that chord he used.

    • Angus Black says:

      Make it THREE times.

He broke the law when he covered up the legitimate plates number ZER 088. Maybe changing the latter plate to ZERO 88 will make more sense.

  10. Wot the Hack says:

Perhaps the PM can illuminate us (without resorting to Nexos) whether Don’t You Know Who I Am is now sitting in the cabinet, whether he is paid as a Minister, and whether he has any other benefits reserved to Ministers.

    • Angus Black says:

The ‘other benefits’ are covered by increasing the number of ‘out of stock’ medicines.

    • La Redoute says:

I don’t know about Silvio Scerri, but Toni Blokka Silg sits in on cabinet meetings.

[Daphne – GM plates are for government ministers, not for those who sit in on cabinet meetings or for ex ufficio cabinet members.]

  11. Neil 2 says:

No you misunderstand, the ministers car is in for a service. So as not to waste the ministry money, Silvio has very generously offered the minister the use of his car in the interim (taf int, ha niffrankaw kif ghallimna Joey taghna.)

  12. Gladio says:

Can someone please explain why a soldier is posted outside Manuel MAllia’s ministry building on guard duties? I thought this was only done for the president and the prime minister.

  13. Victor says:

    Is everybody feeling intimidated?

Why do we have a dead Opposition party and a dead press?

  14. CIS says:

Today 4th September we are told that the Minister has borrowed Silvio Scerri’s car. Does he think that he will fool us? This is the Minister’s weekly joke.

  15. Ta'sapienza says:

Wasn’t there a story on The Times recently that some bloke got into deep trouble for switching plates on his cars?

I mean it’s the same thing at the end of the day.
