Specifying that the funds found will cover the commitments for this year, Dr Muscat blamed the previous administration for not making the funds available in the last budget despite its promise to the organisations involved.

Ok so its the previous government’s fault that the Prime Minister could not find 350,000 to pay the unions etc. Then how does he explain how he found all those millions to be able to make a record cabinet apart from the hundreds of thousands he found to pay for the many new appointments, new commissions and commissioners and the minister’s wife? Is it possible Gonzi had budgeted for these and not for funding the unions?

    • lorna saliba says:

Claude, he probably found the funds hidden somewhere in the Enemalta cash office, opposite the 800 million debt figures.

Unbelieveable. – Unthinkable – But there it is, black on white.

  4. Claude Sciberras says:

I have a feeling that Moody’s change of outlook is linked to the fact that the EU has put Malta into Excessive Deficit Procedure so they know that fiscal consolidation would have to follow.

    • P Shaw says:

Thankfully Angela Merkel won the German elections, and hence fiscal consolidation across the Eurozone is a fundamental concept that will stay.

The Socialists’ philosophy of uncontrolled spending will have hard times ahead.

  5. La Redoute says:

He sent that from parliament and at a time when international media bulletins were buzzing with the story about the migrants’ drowning off Lampedusa.

    • Josette says:

Why would he care? He lives in his limited world where he is top dog and nobody matters but him. He is only capable of schoolyard taunting and hasn’t the brains to come up with real arguments.

Change of subject: today there were two Nexos vehicles parked on Merchant Street (near Auberge de Castille). Has Nexos been given a Government contract, maybe in connection with the Notte Bianca event?

  6. Natalie says:

I suspect that what Moody really means is that we’re now stable in a negative outlook.

  7. bob-a-job says:

More British humour from our PM, I guess.

    Well, here’s some more.

Moody’s changed outlook from negative to stable to mark Joe’s getting on his high horse.

  8. H.P. Baxxter says:

I would laugh, but I’m not wearing my corset and I fear my sides would split. Carry on, Prime Minister.

  9. albona says:

When will it dawn on him that he is neither female nor an adolescent with not a care in the world but rather the Prime Minister of a nation state?

  10. steve says:

The Moody outlook is stable because of the efforts done by the previous administration, on the other hand the outlook for Joe citizen does look bleak, we have more out of stock medicines than we had before, they wanted to remove stipends to those repeating their Ordinary level education, the had no money for civil society groups, then after they got critisized all in a sudden the stipends where kept and they found money for civil society groups.

They want to reduce debt and deficit and they want to do it by tightining the belt as Mintoff used to say rather than seeking proper and real investment, to add insult to injury if you read comments on various news portals there are many people the likes of Privitera which think that this administration is a success.

Could it be that Moody are wrong?
There is so much uncertinaty in the country that a recent call for the sale of bonds was not taken up!!!!!. As a matter of fact one chap I know applied for E15000 and was only alloted E28OO..
Some of course will attribute this to the fact that there are no other openings where to invest your money.
But we could all put our money in the Mallia way.
    Under the mattress.

  12. ciccio says:

Good. Moody’s has just committed the government to fiscal consolidation.

Now that the outlook is stable, there is no reason why Joseph Muscat should not refund the VAT on vehicles and reduce the water and electricity bills without introducing other taxes.

He doesn’t even have knowledge of humor, yet most find this funny.

What’s gotten into the Maltese lately?
