Haven’t we just been told that the army’s commanding officer has retired/resigned/gone off to pastures new?

Then exactly what is he still doing there – serving his notice?

They’ve all gone mad.

So what was all that about, with Emmanuel Mallia’s press release thanking him for his personal loyalty and so on and so forth, and that this is not goodbye because the government will be retaining his services?

There’s a story on The Malta Independent’s site, uploaded yesterday, which has Brigadier Xuereb as being still in charge.

The Maltese soldiers were welcomed by their families at the airport. They were also met by the Commander of the Armed Forces of Malta, Brigadier Martin Xuereb, accompanied by Capt Jason Pisani, Officer Commanding ‘C’ Special Duties Company.

  1. Schettino & The Brigadier says:

Brigadier will terminate his service officially in November. So much for that resignation fanfare. Same as Schettino he abandoned the ship, his officers and men. His actions will haunt him forever.

  2. Min Jaf says:

Perhaps Brigadier Martin Xuereb, out of his ‘personal loyalty’ to Minister ‘Tubby’ Mallia, has opted to provide his services pro bono after retirement. After all, this sort of thing seems to have become fashionable.

This, together with the highly questionable manner in which promotions were recently awarded, must be great for Army morale.

  3. Tabby says:

On what basis is Martin Xuereb going to be posted in Brussels, once he has stated that he has taken the decision to retire after 26 years of service? Doesn’t this constitute another appointment by Government without a public call for the job in Brussels?

    Mind boggling…..

“He would not be drawn into giving more details about the job he will take up in Brussels when he resigns from the AFM next month.”

I’d have him run the gauntlet for this. What a brazen-necked arrogant prick. Scum commanding scum promoted by scum.

  5. bob-a-job says:

Perhaps the Army got him to serve a Hen Dover (after all the Police were made to serve Hors Dovers)

  6. Antoine Vella says:

    Perhaps he’s a Brigadier Emeritus.

  7. Gahan says:

Just before supper I saw Brigadier Martin Xuereb on TVM news in full uniform speaking about some training for Alouette helicopter pilots.

I thought that hunger was playing games with my eyesight.

There’s never a dull moment on this ship of fools.

  8. Now that a deputy has been appointed the Brigadier will make way.

As the saying in Maltese goes, “mahduma bizzilla”, but I must admit it is lacework of very poor quality.
