Running away from Konrad…Mrs Mizzi goes to Shanghai when she doesn’t even have an office there

Published: October 29, 2013 at 12:47pm

So, as predicted, Mrs Konrad Mizzi will be working from home in Shanghai for the foreseeable future, which means that she won’t be working much at all and we have no way of monitoring her activities and whether she is giving value for money.

She has, effectively, got her wish of leaving Malta and her husband to go back home to China, with the luxury of being paid for it by Malta’s public purse.

I have heard, too, that her husband has made one or two trips to China already since she left – let’s hope that those tickets are not coming out of the public purse too, under guise of needing to hold meetings with Chinese power gurus.

The Malta Independent reports:

Malta Enterprise’s investment promotion envoy for Asia – Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi’s wife Sai – still lacks an office in the continent she is supposed to promote Malta in, Economy Minister Chris Cardona confirmed in parliament.

Dr Cardona was replying to a parliamentary question by opposition whip David Agius, the third question Mr Agius had asked on the subject in as many weeks, after the first two went unanswered. The Malta Independent had also sent a Freedom of Information request to his office seeking the information sought by the MP after his first question on the topic, but no reply had been received.

Mr Agius asked for the address of the offices used by Ms Mizzi in Malta and overseas, but the only addresses provided by the minister were that of Malta Enterprise in Pietà and her work email address.

While Ms Mizzi is set to operate from Shanghai, Dr Cardona said that no suitable office has yet been found, adding that once it was, the address would be immediately published on the Malta Enterprise website.

And Chris Cardona still has no idea of what is really happening.

He’s been distracted by the deputy leadership race again.

In 2008, Jose’ was convinced to pull out of that contest to let Chris have a go. Only to see Anglu get it.

This time it’s Manuel who’s in the way. Bit difficult to get past him at the moment. The minister who controls the police is key in Labour. Always.

And Muscat cannot afford a deputy who can challenge his position anyway, Mallia the ex-Nationalist is safe.

There’s an inner circle in cabinet and out. Muscat’s movement is currently deputised by two ‘Nationalists’, a self styled energy guru and businessmen posing as chiefs of staff.

Where’s the politics? The way I see it, no fixed roadmap can hold, not in the dynamics of today’s world, let alone Labour’s legendary impatience. Muscat has to wait another two years before any result can be gauged. If that can ever materialise.

      Meantime, unemployment’s rising by 300 a month.

Are you sure he’s not a lesbian? Cos he kinda looks like a woman in that photo.

Were they actually married or just sort of married? We assume she’s Sai Mizzi but that’s just an assumption. She always had the make-up of the spy who got us.

  8. Neil says:

If they can’t find a ‘suitable office’ in Shanghai they can’t really be trying. On hang on, that must be it then.

This is surely the most brazen and costly Labour accommodation of all during the past 8 months.

  9. Rahal says:

Could it be that the Maltese tax payer is paying for Konrad’s alimony without knowing?

  10. P Shaw says:

Is this a carefully negotiated ‘divorce’ settlement, with the key difference that it is paid by the taxpayers rather than the ‘ex’ husband?

  11. Confused says:

It does not seem to be the most healthy marriage. Could it be that the Maltese tax payers are paying Sai Mizzi’s alimony?

Enough with your petty insinuations all of you. Konrad when to China to fetch back his coloured lip gloss after Mrs. Mizzi inadvertently packed it with her things.
