The anointed Laburist: just like in the old USSR, East Germany and China still today, you’ve got to prove loyalty to the party to be favoured in the army
I’ve just found an email I had received on 14 August:
Jeffrey Curmi was just seen coming out of the Ministry for Home Affairs and National Security. He has been hand picked to replace Martin Xuereb.
I never wrote anything about it, but six weeks later, we see that it’s true. In two weeks, Curmi was ratcheted up two ranks: from major to lieutenant-colonel to colonel, then in the third week he was made Deputy Commander AFM (for which you need the rank of colonel).
You can see what’s probably coming next. When the Commander AFM leaves after serving his three months’ notice in December, Colonel Curmi will receive his third promotion through the ranks in as many months: to brigadier, making him Commander AFM.
From major to brigadier and Commander AFM in just three months. And to think that Martin Scicluna and some other individuals I could mention (but won’t), who take such things really seriously as is fit and proper, voted for this abusive shambles and actually told the rest of us we should do the same.

Jeffrey Curmi. From Major to Commander of the AFM in just 3 months.
I would like to hear if and when Martin Scicluna expresses himself on the way these promotions have been carried out. I do not rule out that he may be waiting for the announcement of the new brigadier before he pronounced himself.
