The prime minister: caught lying

Michelle Muscat and Shiv Nair

Nair concert 1

When asked whether he knows Shiv Nair personally, the prime minister said that he does not. This is an outrageous lie. On 27 May 2011, Joseph and Michelle Muscat were clearly seen sitting in a box at the Manoel Theatre with Shiv and Oksana Nair, engaged in conversation, for the performance of ‘A Classical Evening with Zanta Hofmeyr’, held to raise funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund. Nair’s company, British Borneo Holdings Ltd, was one of the sponsors. Joseph and Michelle Muscat were quite obviously Nair’s guests, in the sponsor’s box.

Now today Malta Right Now, the Nationalist Party’s news website, has published a photograph showing Michelle Muscat in a social group at an Indian evening, again with Shiv and Oksana Nair.

  1. Alexander Ball says:

He meant he doesn’t yet know him in the biblical sense.

    You people.

  2. canon says:

The Prime Minister is caught with his pants down.

  3. ciccio says:

Ah, so the PM spent a “Classical Evening with Shiv Nair,” but he doesn’t know who he spent the evening with. Hmmm.

Now that the picture above has emerged, will the Prime Minister say that he does not know Michelle Muscat, either?

  4. Malcolm says:

    Shiv Nair….not “case closed” yet?

  5. La Redoute says:

The title is wrong. It should read: The Prime Minister – caught lying. Again.

  6. Gahan says:

Change the title to :The prime minister: caught lying AGAIN.

  7. Min Jaf says:

Joseph, jidru li tal-PN stembhu fl-ahhar, u li mhux biss il-kafe qed ixommhu fir-rigward tieghek u tal -gvern immexxi minnhek.

  8. Min Jaf says:

“The Prime Minister: caught telling the truth” would make an even bigger news headline.

  9. gorg says:

Joseph has been looking down at everyone, lately.

Shiv Nair is a rather tall guy (judging from above photo), maybe that’s why Joseph never saw/met him.

    • La Redoute says:

He doesn’t look particularly tall. What you mean is Joseph Muscat is short.

    • Osservatore says:

Whereas there are many people Muscat would like to think he could look down on, there are but a handful he can look down at.

Coconut Farrugia is one of the lucky few who could fit in both categories.

This in turn means that there are equally few who can actually look up at Joseph Muscat. As for those who look up to him, I am sure that the law of diminishing marginal returns applies.

  10. Banana republic ... Again says:

I was gonna comment about how out of place Joseph and Michele must have felt being so culturally inept, but then I noticed it’s recommended for 6 year olds and above.

    Hi Ms CG,

a FT blog post on the latest European Council meeting sheds more light on the miserable showing of our PM. See last paragraph here http://blogs.ft.com/brusselsblog/2013/10/eu-summit-leaked-draft-conclusions-3/?goback=%2Egde_130827_member_5799180755858907140 .

The post provides a link to the draft text for the European Council Conclusions document, presented by Malta, Italy, Spain, Greece and Cyprus – http://blogs.ft.com/brusselsblog/files/2013/10/Council-Conclusions-Migration-Flows.pdf.

The actual Conclusions (http://www.consilium.europa.eu/uedocs/cms_data/docs/pressdata/en/ec/139197.pdf – see para 46) are miles away fromthe Med Member States proposed text, primarily because they are essentially non-committal.

Nowhere near the victory announced by the PM.

  12. AE says:

Fenech Farrugia Fiott should be more careful about who they are associated with

    • Tabatha White says:

Often it’s just the tip of an iceberg that’s visible.

How convenient that it was all organised through the Manoel Theatre.

Let’s see: did Kenneth Zammit Tabona have a hand in it?

      Joseph, Michelle Muscat/ Nair

      Nair/ Farrugia Fenech Fiott

All we need for the picture to be almost complete would be a certain link common to all four present.

  13. Tabatha White says:

Joseph Muscat’s lies were not acceptable in the run up to the elections.

    Neither are they acceptable now.

Joseph Muscat and all his lies, are unacceptable. By now we have a list of them.

What action is to be taken about those that are in breach of his/ his Party’s mandate?

What action is to be taken against a prime minister who lies time after time?

Is there no contract between a Prime Minister’s role and the nation he should be representing? What is he sworn in to do? Lie to the nation?

    This was another one:

    “The Times
    Wednesday, January 16, 2013, 13:29

No policy change in financial services – Muscat

A Labour government will adopt a ‘no policy change’ approach in financial services to maintain continuity in that sector, Joseph Muscat said today.”

With the sale of Passports and Citizenship, Muscat will be lying again, and he has told us in advance that he plans to do just that.

Are we accommodating him or are we going to do something about it?

Under the present circumstances, I do wish someone out there was snooping on us.

  14. Rahal says:

Joseph is irresponsible and not trustworthy.

The lie is not so much upsetting as the fact that we cannot believe the Prime Minister anymore.

  15. Foggy says:

Did he tell this lie in parliament? In a mature democracy that would lead to his resignation but not in Malta. There is enough evidence to suggest Mr Muscat is a congenital liar. If he was a certain wooden puppet he would be tripping over his nose by now.

  16. Jozef says:

At this point, Muscat just became Labour’s greatest liability.

Manuel, Chris and Konrad just happen to be newcomers who haven’t realised where this will take them.

All the others giving the widest of berths. That photo isn’t going away.
