BECOME MALTESE FOR THE SUM OF 650,000 EUROS

‘Passports for sale’. It’s almost what you could read (on a sign) outside the Ministry of Finance in Malta. For the sum of EUR 650 000, Maltese citizenship, and therefore EU citizenship, is sold to foreigners who can simply write out a cheque and receive their brand-new Maltese passport.

With this passport they can then work and live in any EU country, and have unchecked access to the Schengen area. Malta is the only one to brazenly turn its nationality into cash. Other European countries attract wealthy foreigners to fill the state coffers.

500,000 Euro stashed under the bed. 150,000 Euro to go and I can buy someone a Maltese Passport for Christmas.

If you split the cost with your buddies, you could have a timeshare agreement. Or you can haggle for a group discount.
