Euronews: ‘Malta set to sell citizenships for €650,000 a pop’

This is a story that suggests, by reporting Muscat’s denial, that Malta is on the verge of financial crisis and this is why it has resorted to selling passports for an “exorbitant” €650,000 – hardly exorbitant, when you consider what Russians, Chinese, Azeris and people from former/current Middle East and North African dictatorships can do with an EU passport.

Malta is set to start selling citizenships for the Mediterranean island – at an exorbitant €650,000 a pop.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said the scheme, which would give buyers work and residency rights to the European Union, would bring in €30 million in the first year.

(…)

Earlier this year Muscat dismissed fears Malta would become the next country to seek an EU bailout package, saying the economy was growing and debt was under control.

Is it not about time we changed this. The Maltese passport is not “for sale” but “ON Sale”

Actually it is exorbitant. All those who really need our passport i.e. those fleeing their country cause of persecution (also called illegal immigrants) cannot afford €650K to buy themselves a new citizenship.
