Is this ethical practice? Parliament has not yet voted, and some lawyers are already promoting the sale of Maltese passports as sub-agents for Henley.

CHETCUTI CAUCHI

This man was in the London audience when the prime minister gave his abysmal, excruciating presentation on why rich people from troubled backgrounds should buy Maltese passports.

Guess Jean Philippe Chetcuti is one of the authorised persons to publish, advertise and disseminate information relating to this Programme….what a joke.

  2. Felix says:

    Ethics? What’s that?

  3. Jozef says:

Affluent persons only. How absolutely venial.

These guys are capable of fitting a diesel into a Fulvia.

Or cover everywhere with the latest GRES. ‘Propja rham’.

  4. Stephen Forster says:

I just wish that the US State Dept or some office from the EU responsible for Schengen or more specifically the security side SIS (Schengen Information System) part would make an official pronouncement on where they stand on this issue.

    • Alexander Ball says:

Quite rightly, they can’t do anything until the law is enacted and the passports are being sold.

    • Mr Meritocracy says:

Yesterday evening, I sent an email to EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding’s office to see what the EU’s stand on the matter is, asking questions about this sale of passports business and whether the EU can do anything about it.

  5. Chris says:

The Chamber of Advocates is obviously snoozing its way through this whole debacle – a half-hearted press release and that’s it.

Shouldn’t this law firm be admonished? Advertising something that doesn’t exist yet? Is Henley & Partners already giving out authorisation to sell and promote without there actually being a law yet?

    Iranians. Of course.

With no diplomatic relations with the US, it is rather tricky for an Iranian to travel there. It is all but impossible if they are government officials, clerics, or rich businessmen in league with the government.

More crucially, vitally, due-diligently importantly, is the plethors of sanctions, international and national imposed on Iranian nationals (not just Iranian-registered companies). With a Maltese passport, an Iranian arms dealer could do business worldwide. Bingo.

Above all, I see this as a serious erosion of democracy in Malta. One wonders what Malta will be like in 2018.

  8. It all Stinks says:

So Dr. Chetcuti sold out. He’d rather have a bite of the cherry than not at all.

Shame on him. By becoming an agent for Henley and this even before it has become law, he has done a disservice to his colleagues and to himself.

He is no different to those National Bank shareholders who made a deal with Mintoff when he threatened to take the bank (which he then took), thus making their fellow shareholders’ positions weaker. Shame on him.

He should rather be lobbying with Dr Muscat to enlighten him to the error of his ways both on the parameters of the programme and the appointment of a sole concessionaire.

He boasts to be an adviser to Dr Muscat, so he is in a good position to do so. That is unless he knows that it is all pointless and that Joseph Muscat intends to play bully and push this through regardless of all the good counsel he is getting to the contrary. In which case he has buckled in.

So Dr Chetcuti go ahead and continue in all your travels, networking for the benefit of Henley & Partners who have just turned you into a cheap commission agent.

In the meantime watch whilst Henley & Partners sell corporate, trust, residence and property services to the clients you refer to them and let us know if it was worth it..

  9. marks says:

He was seated in the second row exactly behind the Henley agent

  10. P Sant says:

Aren’t there huge penalties for promoting this thing?

[Daphne – The guy’s in Pakistan. What are they going to do about it? Sue him? Ask for his extradition?]

  11. Albert Borg says:

    Daphne

There is no need for parliament approval since ahna l-laburisti have a comfortable 9 seat majority. Why vote then? It is a waste of time!!!!

  12. pablo says:

Technically any old man and his dog can promote this scam as the bill has not yet passed into law.

    • Lomax says:

Indeed. No law yet and hence no criminal offence. The fact that these lawyers are promoting the scheme does not mean they are Henley agents. Most probably it means they do not give two hoots.
