Whatever the country and the language, every single headline is making two points:

1. this isn’t just a Maltese passport but an EU passport; and

2. the “flogging off” aspect, suggesting we are both capricious and indigent.

    Another point implied in most articles is that this measure has been introduced because Malta is in dire straits. There goes all the previous administration’s work in boosting Malta’s international reputation and economic ties down the drain.
