I hope Henley and Partners will be telling their customers about the stand taken by the Opposition. If not should a future Nationalist government withdraw such passports, Henley and Partners will be subject to action for substantial damages by their customers for lack of full disclosure.

With the Nationalist Party saying that it will revoke bought passports, Henley & Partners is in effect buying votes for the Labour Party. Because whoever values his newly bought citizenship will surely vote Labour to keep it.

[Daphne – Citizenship is a prerequisite for voting, but in and of itself it does not give you the right to vote in Maltese general elections. There are other requirements.]

Daphne, Could you delve into the “other requirements” and whether these can be amended, accommodated or facilitated to suit a wish to link the aspiring New Citizens to a vote? After all, the big hurdle is the first. Living in Malta, applying for an Identity Card etc., surely those are secondary, but minor hurdles?

I envision the necessary paperwork for all conditions to be met, being made available and expected in before the passport is actually handed over.

Verifying residence would be a joke.

I believe that although voting rights shouldn’t be automatic, in effect, they will be.
