Mrs Vella seems to have been selected on Silvio Berlusconi’s ticket

Published: December 12, 2013 at 8:19pm

I give up. Yes, I really give up. Full theatrical make-up, ridiculously unsuitable dress with bimbo puffed sleeves, hooker shoes (you can’t see them but they’re there), steam-ironed hair, jerky insecure gestures, no ideas and zero eloquence.

‘Vote for me because you’d like to date me’.

For heaven’s sake, woman, it’s 2013. And your party’s supposed to be progressive and liberal, not Berlusca’s bunch of sexist pigs.

Is she wearing a bullet-proof vest or was this before a Halloween dress-up?

    And what drivel.

  2. albona says:

And where exactly did she read that vampire-style puffy shoulder sleeves are appropriate anywhere other than a Goth party? And what of the crucifix?

    I too give up.

  3. Gahan says:

For goodness sake, this is not a beauty pageant. Give me Roberta Tedesco’s enthusiasm, Therese Commodini Cachia’s assertiveness and Helga Ellul’s business acumen, anytime.

It seems the PL candidates make good actors before the elections, promise heaven on earth to the voters and after they get elected, they “make the most of it”.

    • Not Viktor says:

Well said. I haven’t seen anyone work as hard as Roberta Metsola in the few months she has been a MEP.

      • Tabatha White says:

Not only very hardworking, and astute, but polite.

      • albona says:

Hear hear. Metsola is great and is truly on the ball, a spirited fighter who will not give an inch and be bullied by uncouth socialists.

Casa is a true European MEP who avoids nationalistic jingoism.

Helga Ellul transcends the need for candidates to be nationalistic hicks from the back of beyond and has proved herself in the business world. Comodini Cachia is needed back in Malta to defend us from these constant attacks on democracy. The others I must confess I know little about.

  4. ciccio says:

Jeez, ‘pacenzja’ they filled every high office of the Maltese government and every Maltese embassy and high commission with former Super One staff.

Do they have to fill the European Parliament with them as well?

  5. Joe says:

Every single word she spoke is bulls**t.

  6. Nerd of Redhead posing for the North Face says:

    Misshom jilbsu tan-North Face.

  7. H.P. Baxxter says:

I wouldn’t vote for it, and I wouldn’t even date it.

But Helga Ellul, hell I’d do both.

  8. Wot the Hack says:

Isn’t the meaning of “Priorita’ Malta” the same as Mintoff’s “Malta l-Ewwel u Qabel Kollox”?

Why is it that I think this slogan was suggested by Karmenu “Golden Years” Vella?

  9. Last Post says:

Could it be the Thorning-Schmidt factor inside Lejber?

  10. anthony says:

I am going to vote for her for the simple reason that I hope I will see less of her around.

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

Really? She’ll just come back as prime minister. You’ve been warned.

    • Ċikku says:

Iss mur obsor għalik. u nitwikkew biha fil-Parlament Ewropew biex inkunu ħlisna minnha minhawn. Le ma jaqbilx. X’għandha x’taqsam ma’ Roberta Metsola. Fil-ftit żmien li ilha Membru Parlamentari Ewropew urietna xi ssarraf. Prosit u nerġgħu naraw hemmhekk Roberta.

  11. Lisa says:

Cyrus is using a similar slogan, ‘Malta l-ewwel’ if I’m not mistaken. Using the immigration hype and the ever growing racist sentiments, that their own progressive and liberal party helped to ignite, for their own personal aspirations.

They could have used Mintoff’s slogan, ghal naqra.

    Ivvutalom a Gahan.

  12. Augustus says:

Kieku veru temmen fil-valuri li semmiet, kieku titlaq minn mal-PL ghax dawk zgur m’humiex il-valuri li jemmen fihom il-partit taghha.

  13. Lomax says:

Whoever says “priorita Malta” in the context of an EU institution has understood nothing of the EU. The EU is supranational and should strive for the common good of the EU not of the single states.

I’ve always been against giving the EP more powers. It has become a populist institution and it has become farcical. I do not want a populist EU.

We have got our national parliaments for this. The EU should retain the spirit of the Schumann declaration but I know I’m in the absolute minority on this. People want democratic representation whilst labouring under the false belief that they are capable of choosing worthy representatives. I beg to differ. More power to the EP, more asinine EP decisions.

And it seems we are about to ship another case of kohl rabis come June.

    • Bubu says:

Well, one needs to have a pool of people of calibre to choose from in the first place in order to be able to elect worthy representatives.

Apparently there aren’t any of those though. Well, on the Labour side, there’s definitely nobody I would trust to walk my dog, let alone vote into the European Parliament.

On thr PN side, though, the situation is definitely very different. I was pleasantly surprised with Ms. Tedesco Triccas. She really hit the ground running.

  14. Silvio farrugia says:

Would you believe that she is a consultant for energy and water? I wish to know what qualifications she has for those.

So many consultants ….God help us if the ‘consultants’ in the medical field were to be like these.

No wonder there have been so many gaffes in these 10 months.

    • The Phoenix says:

What utter lack of taste and class. Her dress looks like a blackish greenish version of Snow White’s dress, and he make up would do justice to a Lebanese hostess.

And what drivel. She values honesty, she says, when for most of her life she excelled in lies, half truths, obfuscations on her personal life (vide her silence on her Gozitan boyfriend some years ago) and her “political” marriage to il-Guy’s son, and built a career in the Super One newsroom.

She doesn’t know a thing about water and Energy, and yet she is a consultant to that ministry, taking home more in salary than she did from the Vodafone job she left. How about taking your new-found honesty to a new level, Miriam, and telling us a little more of what you do for Konrad Mizzi’s ministry?

    • Jozef says:

You’re absolutely right, what’s sad is the way this state of affairs is slowly being accepted.

They should be held accountable, roles challenged, work put under scrutiny. Indeed, what are their tasks, what deadlines, what results are we to expect?

      • Tabatha White says:

For example: how does one contact “our” business envoy Sai Mizzi? What’s her brief, really? What will the results have been for her 1st quarter?

Can this be put forward as a PQ?

      • Jozef says:

Yes, I thought Malta’s business envoy to China would do anything to be accessible to Maltese entreprenuers who wish to expand and explore the Chinese market.

Alas, looks like bureacracy got the better of her.

  15. P Shaw says:

Back to the 80s and the shoulder-pads.

Miriam, you should thank your mother-in-law for recycling that dress.

  16. Wonderland says:

All text-book speech which means nothing really. Usual rhetorical statements, nothing new. Priority is for her to get elected and enjoy a life funded by the taxpayer as she is doing now as a consultant to Konrad Mizzi. This is the only motive, aspiration or shall we say, priority.

  17. H. Prynne says:

Well, not to be crude but ‘date’ is not the word that truly fits…

  18. Tabatha White says:

Wasn’t Miriam Dalli another one who went on and on, and on and on about “the clock,” but about very little else?

All those hand movements, one would think she’s yet another schizophrenic on the platform.

Dress sense nil if this is how she intends to represent Malta. And of her values: the moment she stated honesty, was the time to switch off.

  19. Artemis says:

Is she representing the Bunga Bunga Party?

  20. Ian says:

    ‘Bimbo stuffed sleeves’ – classic.

[Daphne – Puffed. It’s the style of the sleeve.]

  21. Jozef says:

At least they don’t end up looking like some dufour toffee.

Laura Ravetto, one of the bitchiest, usually dispatched to all left leaning talk shows on Raitre. Vuitton everything.

Daniela Santanche’, nicknamed the pythoness, the real hardliner. Just look at those trousers.

They’re not having any bimbo take over.

  22. Charles says:

The only candidate that will get my vote is Helga Ellul. She proved herself. Il-bqija jiddispjacini nghid…ma narax valur. Metsola tidier bias meta jkun imiss l-elezzjoni tal MEP…il bqija bahh.
