The government’s revised sale-of-citizenship scheme, which retains the cash payment of Eur650,000 but adds the mandatory purchase of Eur350,000 worth of real estate and Eur150,000 worth of bonds – though NOT residency – is reported by The New York Times already, along with the government’s failure to reach accord with the Opposition.

As usual, they missed the point of the whole hoo-hah by a few miles. Let’s see what the EP will have to say about the ‘new’ programme.

The increase in the price tag of the European Passport makes the scandal even bigger.

The situation is looking ever more similar to the sale of Brazilian student Migliorini’s virginity, about which I had already commented here back in November. She first thought she could sell it for $780,000, but then decided to change her mind and hold on to it for a little longer.

Now she is expecting to cash an amount in the region of $1.5 million.

The main difference between Muscat’s EU Passports For Cash and Migliorini’s offering is, of course, that Migliorini claims to be still a virgin. Our citizenship has now been prostituted already when Labour passed the Citizenship For Sale law in November.

At $1.5 million, Migliorini’s virginity is now about $7,000 cheaper than Muscat’s EU passport, and therefore Migliorini is more likely to attract buyers.
