The Police Minister has been revealed as lying in the John’s Garage case. So it’s time to remember this other gross lie.

Malta under Labour: the only EU member state where a cabinet minister (and one responsible for the police, what’s more) can lie fatly and grossly to journalists, and therefore the public, more than once and survive with the full support of the prime minister.

It is getting really difficult to keep count of the lies told by Joseph Muscat and his ministers.

  2. chully says:

It is worth keeping a log of these lies. In four years time most of them will be forgotten.

  3. David says:

According to today’s press, it appears that Mr G Farrugia may be lying and, if this is the case, he can lose his immunity. Pilate’s question is even more relevant today.

[Daphne – In a toss-up between believing George Farrugia or Tony Debono, I’d believe George Farrugia any day. As for Tony Debono, surely he doesn’t plan to go to the grave still weaseling himself up to whoever the incoming government might happen to be. That’s what this is all about, David, and make no mistake about it.]

    • Antoine Vella says:

Tony Debono has to say that Mallia knew nothing about the Enemalta corruption because, if Mallia knew, so did Debono himself.

While Manuel Mallia can claim to have been bound by professional secrecy (controversial though this claim might be), Debono can use no such an excuse. By not reporting the bribes, he was therefore effectively breaking the law.

The same reasoning applies to George Farrugia’s brothers.

Another point: if Debono is claiming to not have known about the kickbacks, why is he insisting that the PAC hear him? They are investigating the very kickbacks he did not know about.

      • curious says:

If the Public Accounts Committee hears Debono, it should also hear Mallia.

      • Angus Black says:

He wants PAC to hear him because if I am not mistaken, he is the first to come to Mallia’s defence. Obviously he has been chumming with Mallia since at least 2010.

    • Gaetano Pace says:

WEASLING and that little bit more under the carpet.

  4. Paddy says:

Manwel is a confirmed liar. The only problem is that his Leader himself has been caught lying, so won’t do anything about it. It is obvious that lying is the norm with this Government.

  5. ciccio says:

The bigger the lie, the more people believe it.

The Minister cannot be blamed if he thinks that he can lie again because the media let him get away with the first one.

We still do not know the exact source of those Eur 500,000 which about a year ago were stashed under Mallia’s mattress, and what happened to them since.

    • krakatoa says:

More important than knowing from where the €500,000 came from is what were they intended for. Remember money leaves no trail.

  7. arriva says:

I wonder why the Labour Party was so against the Presidential Pardon? I wish some journalist will ask the question.

  8. Silvio Farrugia says:

What about the 500 thousand euros in cash at his house? Also does the EU know about the rampant tax evasion over here? What about the minister for Gozo, servicing a loan of Eur830,000 with an annual income of Eur23,000? Did the income tax department investigate? And why does the opposition not ask these questions? Or do they evade tax too?
