Yes, I am most definitely an adult

Published: December 31, 2013 at 7:29pm

Times of Malta appears to have taken down its report on this subject, which was published earlier today, so let’s go to the original source, First Malta.

The top ten search terms in Malta in 2013 have been published, and my name (given as just ‘daphne’) is on the list. First Malta, which has the story which Times of Malta then reported, tells us that ‘Top search terms during 2013 in Malta are adult-related’. I could easily take offence at that, I suppose, or look at it pragmatically: I’m an adult, rather than an ‘adult site’.

Times of Malta (times), Malta Today (maltatoday) and iNews (inews) have more reason to be upset; they may be many things, but not porn. As for Facebook, Play and Amazon, they would hardly care.

In any case, ‘Top search terms during 2013 in Malta are adult related’ is bit misleading. The top two are: ‘nude’ and ‘free XXX’. The other eight are not.

Top search terms during 2013 in Malta are adult related

As the year 2013 draws to an end, this website is publishing statistics showing the most popular search terms used during 2013 by Maltese visitors.

This year, as in past years, adult related search terms feature predominantly in the top positions.

This follows the trends of other European countries and comes as no surprise, especially when one considers that adult themed sites generate a multi-million euro revenue stream.

The top keywords used are:

1. nude

2. free XXX

3. times

4. teen

5. facebook

6. maltatoday

7. amazon

8. daphne

9. play

10. inews

It would be interesting to know the source of their data, as Google Trends shows a different set of keywords for the past 12 months.

Congratulations Daphne, keep up the good work. I am an avid, maybe addicted, reader of your blogs.

  3. Alexander Ball says:

If we all search ‘Muscat sucks’ several times a day, next year’s will look cool.

  4. Me says:

    Good one, Daphne!

  5. Matthew Sultana says:

I think teen is related to adult searches too

  6. Silvio Farrugia says:

No wonder there are worried people and they are urging The Malta Independent to stop you. If some of our so called journalists had a chip off Daphne we will have less scandals in the end .

  7. Claude Sciberras says:

The fact that someone needs to search Facebook and Amazon is very telling about the IQ of those using the internet in Malta. I’m surprised one of the top ones is not e-mail or start.

100% disputable! How was this data collected? Which Search Engine is being analysed? Google.com.mt? Bing? Yahoo? I hope that the site did not rely on flawed statistics provided by sites like Alexa.com, which only gathers information from people who have the Alexa Toolbar Installed on their browser!

I ran a quick Keyword Research using Google Adwords Keyword Tool:
    Targeting:

    • Geo-Location: Malta (Google.com.mt)
    • Language: All languages
    • Google: (excluding Google Search Partners)

And these are the results I got:

    Keyword / Avg. Monthly Searches

    Facebook / 1500000
    Inews / 60500
    Maltatoday / 49500
    Times / 33100
    Amazon / 18100
    Daphne / 12100
    Play / 5400
    Nude / 590
    free xxx / 390
    teen / 0

P.S. These are not the highest-searched for terms on Google – I jusr presented REAL data for the KWs presented in this PR.

This data comes straight from Google’s Platform and I suspect the data was invented just to get a Press Release on local newspapers, which unfortunately, do not corroborate such data before printing.
