MEPs condemn Maltese passports-for-cash scheme
By Dave Keating – Today, 04:45 CET
Citizenship can be bought for €650,000

MEPs were united yesterday (15 January) in condemning a Maltese government scheme to sell passports for €650,000, a scheme that gives purchasers EU citizenship and the right to live and work anywhere in the EU. “I think it’s completely crazy, I don’t even understand how it can come into the mind of somebody,” said Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the Liberal ALDE group in the Parliament.

How can our prime minister face the nation with such a huge failure and continue blaming the Nationalists about the outcome when after all the Labour Party have four MEPs representing them and they only managed to convince 22 members when on the other hand the Nationalists have only 2 MEPs and the majority of the members voted against the passport scheme.

Under Mintoff’s tenure, Malta became an isolated anti-democratic state, cohorting with the likes of other Communist countries, including North Korea.

Thirty years later, barely ten months in government, and Muscat has totally blown Malta’s hard earned reputation in the European Union.

Unbelievable; just like the Trojan horse, the Trojan people believed it was the end of an era and new peaceful beginnings. The Labour Party is still anti-European just as before. Malta just swallowed big time Labour’s marketing propaganda last elections.

As the quote goes, history repeats itself.

And our dear PM laughing because he is pleased with this big budget surprise. Zmien il-buzullotti ghadu ser jibda.

The crux of the problem is that Labour is not genuinely and sincerely committed to Malta’s EU membership but is opportunistic about it. Hence it has no qualms in degrading EU citizenship by treating it as a marketable commodity.

A meme should be created and published ‘massively’ on social media.

In Maltese we say “il-hmar taqtaghlu denbu, hmar jibqa.” However, many refused to see the truth in this wise saw and went ahead and voted Labour in the last election. See where that got us. It’s not as if they weren’t warned.
