The Financial Times today:
“Malta to defy MEPs and sell passports for €650,000”

The last paragraph is really telling:
“Julia Onslow-Cole, head of global immigration at London-based PwC Legal, added that uncertainties caused by the parliament’s resolution as well as US government anxieties about the programme were “serious negative factors” for prospective clients of the Malta passport.”
Julia Onslow-Cole hits the nail on the head. Any decent high net worth individual is not going to go for Muscat’s billion euro sale. Muscat is too iffy and has made Malta too iffy.
In real terms, our “talent” is going to come from the bottom of the barrel, from the corrupt or totalitarian parts of the world, where the carrying out of due diligence is hindered, if not nigh impossible. To reach the billion mark, the standards are going to be in the dirt.
All this paroli about attracting people of calibre, without them being obliged to live here and share this calibre with us, is a contradiction in terms.
And if the Labour government blames the Nationalists for turning Europe against us it is also proving how ineffectual it is, if its huge clout is beaten by a Nationalist minority.
So the PL by its own admission is inferior to the PN when it comes to obtaining results. Its own lies are boomeranging back.
More stamping of the feet by the Maltese prime minister Joseph Muscat.
Meanwhile, Europe has woken up, and it smelled a rat.
The new Laburisti: Muscatoffjani.
Old wine in new bottles.
And the law still stands as originally passed and signed by President Abela. No amendment has been tabled about the “secrecy” clause’.
I think the above article is wrong. Muscat is again not telling the truth. The IIP will not be capped at 1800 passports, but 1800 MAIN APPLICANTS. That could easy result in 20,000 passports.
I wonder what all these new golden citizens will do when we’re booted out of the EU.
They’ll have a really hard time acquiring a new citizenship elsewhere; our (their) passport/citizenship will be considered mud green by then. I guess they’ll just be stuck in the Styx along with the rest of us. If they’re lucky China or Azerbaijan will take them back and their prospects will once again improve. Oh well.
Min jaf Mintoff x’jitqaleb
My sentiment exactly.
Joseph Muscat dejjem kien kontra li Malta ssir membru ta l-Unjoni Ewropeja.
Ma hemmx dubju li ghadu jahseb l-istess illum u ta’ kiesah u stupidu qed jipprova jirvina din is-shubija.
