Muscat says the social partners agree. They release statements saying they don’t. Or release no statement at all.

Published: January 21, 2014 at 8:50am

Times of Malta has reported:

Speaking on Radio Malta’s programme Ghandi X’Nghid, Dr Muscat said the government’s mistake was that it had not communicated enough but it had learnt from its mistake and after the situation was explained to the social partners, they agreed with the government’s proposal.

Ah, so that would be why the Malta Employers Association has released a statement saying the precise opposite.

This truth-twisting can’t go on.

Any chance of watching yesterday’s debate in Parliament? The website of the Maltese Parliament shows only live debates – at least I could not find a link to past debates.

The social partners should re-issue their previous statements or make their position clear. By this point I think it’s their duty to do so; their reputation and our fledgeling democracy are at stake.

The social partners should advice the Government that any scheme shouldn’t be in conflict with the EU laws and has approval from the EU partners.

  3. Niki B says:

Why is no one asking the Chamber of Commerce where they stand now following the vote in the EU parliament and Commissioner Reding’s position on the scheme? Are they still supporting it fully or do they have any reservations? Where are our journalists?

We have never had a PM of this calibre……..as a liar, I mean. Lying has become the norm.

Just another lie. What else do you expect from the leader of us chicken thieves?

    Why pussy foot, Daphne?

    It isn’t ‘truth-twisting’

Call it what it is, BAREFACED LYING. (pls excuse the shouting)

  7. La Redoute says:

The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry didn’t issue a statement of support, nor did the MHEA or the MCESD.

The only statement of support was issued by the GWU.

    Enough said.

  8. Moira says:

Daphne is it possible for you to get hold of a photograph showing all the constituted bodies and social partners grouped with Eddie Fenech Adami to show their complete agreement with EU accession? This would show exactly what it means to say that government has the unconditional support of the social partners. Hopefully this will be picked up by the press and published repeatedly.

is there not somewhere in the constitution that one can remove from office a pathological liar?

Both the Chamber of Commerce and MHRA are lackeys of Muscat and cowards par excellance. After the heavy drubbing Muscat got from the EU parliament the CC/MHRA have no option but to reconsider their position.

For the prime minister, silence means consent. So he first buys their silence or bullies them into silence, and then he says they have agreed.

We remember Mintoff’s late-evening threat at Castille to manufacturers during the TVM boycott period:

Either advertise on TVM, or your water and electricity supplies will be cut off.

Nothing changes with MLP. This was evident from the start.
