The dragon and the diamond

From Times of Malta’s report on the Public Accounts Committee hearing this evening:
Dr Bonnici noted another e-mail were a Naeel Ahmed asked Mr Farrugia: “Did the dragon like the diamond?” He asked what that meant. Mr Farrugia said this was about a blue diamond given as a gift to his wife. He still had it, along with receipts.
Poor Mrs Farrugia.
And to think that back in the thick of the political propaganda about this awful business, it was taken to be self-evident that ‘the dragon’ was some government big cheese and ‘the diamond’ was a bribe paid to him.
I remember thinking at the time: Why dragon? Why diamond? It’s women who are spoken of as dragons, not men.
Well, silly me.

And it’s women who are associated with diamonds too may I add.
Oh, how poetic!
