They’ve scrambled Kurt Farrugia…

Kurt Farrugia

This short report in The Malta Independent has such a good opening line.

Meanwhile, I gather that of the four Labour MEPs, only Joseph Cuschieri (and won’t he make a fantastic impression) will speak in this evening’s debate in the European Parliament.

I hardly expect John Attard Montaldo to say anything in support of either this government or these plans (hello, John!), and Claudette Abela Baldacchino has been practically invisible as she faces corruption proceedings on some plane ticket scam, but surely Marlene Mizzi, who has so very much to say between exclamation marks on Facebook, could instead put her arguments in the appropriate forum to which she is elected?

A short report is just about right. This is Kurt Farrugia we’re talking about.

What I’d like to know is, how are reporters going to find him in the scrum?

I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, until someone pointed it out (thanks) in some other post.

This government was elected with a devastating majority the likes of which we’ve never seen, with the support of the very vocal majority, across social classes, and with the enthusiastic support of practically all media outlets. In addition, it has put its people in all the key posts, and was handed over an economy in perfect working order.

And yet it’s been in crisis mode from day one.

It is all very reminiscent of Gonzi’s government in its last throes. But this lot have been in power for less than a year. The only thing that’s keeping them there is the unassailable parliamentary majority. As for moral authority, they’ve long since lost it, if they ever had it at all.

Well it does not worry me much because similar cases happened elsewhere and they came tumbling down in seconds. I dont see a long future. Joseph Muscat might have a large majority, but he hasnt got what it takes to control it. They are already chattering in secret behind his back. And when that happens something terrifying will follow, the rival to take his place. Now does this remind me of a similar story?

PL was voted because the PN had had its time and the malefic bipartsan mentality envisaged no other plausible opponent than PL.

PL were all hype and talk but clearly they had nothing to deliver. They are power junkies who were suffering from a severe urge, but now that they’ve had their dose the country will suffer major consequences as it can extract nothing from this lot.

“it has put its people in all the key posts,” – including the prime minister himself.

That’s why they’re in crisis mode.

    • Mikiel says:

Exactly, because its people have no clue how to run a key post.

      • Sue says:

Right you are! The permanent secretary for education left some months ago, and the word is that the permanent secretary for foreign affairs is also on his way out.

  4. vanni says:

Marlene Mizzi – she’s too busy searching for the vanishing 200 MEPs.

And what is Corto going to do exactly? Climb on a stool to catch some of the action?

  5. ciccio says:

Yesterday evening on TimesTalk Owen Bonnici was asked why they seem to have sold their Citizenship 4 Sale scam poorly in the EU. Bonnici accused the PN of orchestrating in the European Parliament with their 2 MEPs.

I thought to myself: so if according to Bonnici the PN could orchestrate the EU against the Citizenship 4 Sale with 2 MEPs, what could Labour do with 4 MEPs?

    • Gaetano Pace says:

It is proven beyond any imagineable reasonable doubt that they did nothing, nothing at all except raise the NO vote from 18 to 22. All this for fistfuls of Euros which in the first place and ever since they have always resented and shunned.

  6. Jozef says:

    Exclusive footage of the scramble.

Marlene Mizzi? She’s to busy for that! She is an MEP

  8. Edward says:

Incidentally, does all this IIP issue bring into question whether or not the Labour MEPs are actually in line with the values of the parties they are part of in Europe?

Before, I would imagine, those parties, erroneously, used their membership of the Labour Party to judge whether or not they were in line with the ideologies they represent.

It would be strange that a member of, say, the Tory party were to ask to join the Socialists in the EU, for example.

It seems to me that those Labour MEPs managed to get by under the radar with that one card to play- that they are part of the Malta Labour Party and therefore must be inline with X values. But now the truth has been revealed. The Labour Party is made up of people who are not the liberal progressive or democratic individuals.

What will this mean for their future and position within those EP parties?

  9. Luke Zahra says:

I am honestly out of words to describe our present Government. Can they stoop any lower?

Roberta Metsola keep up your good work.. at least we have one worthy MEP to represent us all!

  10. Jon says:

Where is Louis Grech? Isn’t he the Minister for European affairs?

  11. Mallia says:

Kurt is Labour’s secret weapon unleashed in Europe. The Americans also had a secret weapon. They dropped it on Hiroshima. It was called “little boy”.

The next one they dropped over Nagasaki. It was called “fat man”.

    Is Manuel Mallia next?

  12. P Shaw says:

One free cat-suit (or burka) with each passport sold. It depends on the original nationality.

  13. Kukkurin says:

Scrambling the coconut seems to have backfired as it only further associated the citizenship programme with some suspect Carribean scheme.

  14. Steve says:

What a bunch of amateurs, how does this government expect to be taken seriously?

  15. Silvio farrugia says:

All those so called consultants and new posts for the boys and they are doing a fiasco of the government.he government wage bill is 22 million more in 3 MONTHS. The debt 500 Euro more.
How long will we be economically sound ?
