Is it really necessary to have an ethics guidebook to know the basics of correct behaviour?

Rita Gatt

I have since been informed that Rita Gatt, who has commented in support of Tal-Handaq biology teacher Vince Taliana’s inappropriate Facebook post (written in reaction to this website’s exposure of him), is herself a teacher at St Martin’s College, the independent co-ed secondary school.

  1. Anthony says:

St Martin’s College had better watch out.

  2. Marlowe says:

I don’t have children, but if I did, homeschooling would be appealing right about now.

  3. La Redoute says:

Are they all so thick that they think this is about modelling and not about inappropriate behaviour?

  4. Ruth says:

One might ask: do all these ‘free childcare centres’ which the government is gladly offering, have suitable child carers fit for their role?

Because at this rate, even though I don’t agree completely with a home-schooling system, it might be a safer option.

  5. C Mangion says:

if you look hard enough you’ll find most to be incompetent – 3 months off in summer plus half days for most of their working lives; not too rough a deal, I’d say.

    • La Redoute says:

      That’s not quite right.

    • Grezz says:

Let’s be fair. There are several dedicated teachers, though I wouldn’t want to be in their place myself, dealing with all sorts of children (not to mention their sometimes insufferable parents).

    • Anna Maria Gatt says:

It’s not fair to judge all teachers in the same way.

Most of us are hard working and at times we go out of our way to support and help our pupils. But I fully agree that even though we have a right to a private life, we are still role models to those we teach.

And the majority of us do this even during social events which we organise amongst ourselves as all other working communities do.

    • Corinne Vella says:

Dedicated teachers don’t just work during school hours. Since when are hours of work a measure of competence, anyway?

  6. ciccio says:

The Vince Taliana & Co seem to be in a panic and running scared. They are now sticking together, but soon they will be fleeing in separate directions.

  7. Joe Fenech says:

Vince Taliana is retaliating because he obviously has things to hide.

Daphne is the only – YES, ONLY – journalist in Malta who has the guts and decency to carry out investigative work into disturbing people like these. The other Maltese ‘journalists’ choose to self-censor and collude with the mainstream aberrations.

Agree 100%. I know Erin Stewart Tanti’s background thanks to this site.

  8. Joe Fenech says:

An abuser spends a considerable time working on and conveying an idealised, distorted image of his real persona and intimidates those who are a threat to this.

  9. Nerd of Redhead Dancing OM Trolls says:

This week has been the worst ever for some pimp-like school teachers.

  10. ben says:

Free child care centres.Who is going to take care of our children.I hope not some of these cheap so called models.God help us and our children.

  11. Sufa says:

Why does this teacher have so many albums containing over a thousand school-related photos on her Facebook profile? Take this https://www.facebook.com/rita.gatt.35/media_set?set=a.10151726454813683.1073741832.695293682&type=3 for example.

Is that not in breach of the Data Protection Act? Are their parents happy with this? Do the children themselves want their pictures up?

  12. Mother says:

You have absolutely no idea who these people are, please stop indulging in silly village gossip. Bear in mind that you are not hurting them but their vulnerable ternage kids whom you are ceremonously asking authorities to protect!

    • Dicky Cliffs says:

We so protect vulnerable teenage kids, we want people like you to stop behaving like pimp-like teachers because before you yourself realise, you’ll be turning yourself into a pimp-like mother.

      • Mother says:

On what grounds do you perceive me to be a pimp Mr Cliffs? Kindly do explain further so as to be able to work on my personal and social development and learn from your illustrious goodself. Thank you so much in advance.

  13. Mother says:

After humouring myself with this article and subsequent very uninformed humorous comments by the sudditi of Daphne who sit prettily behind their laptops and do what they love most, (read traditional maltese scaremongering), I will happily send my kids to a nun’s school where rigidity excels and no extracurricular activities including field outings and the creative arts are actively encouraged. Alas, thanks to people who write these articles and comments in a classical very very maltese frame of mind, name dropping without a reason, students will be barred from developing their talents to the full, whatever these may be. . Do journalists have a code of ethics in Malta I wonder? On what basis are these teachers being mentioned? What exactly have they done?Does Daphne know them? Scaremongering behind a nickname and putting talented and incredibly dedicated teachers in an embarassing situation is not done in any serious developed country. I would strongly recommend to you all to take time off from sitting behind your expensive hardware and take a trip to Vienna, London, Florence, Milan…. And visit some schools and speak to students too whilst you are there. You would be amazed at how much you would learn from our next generation thanks to teachers who actively work to help them grow holistically. Then again i am sure non of you will, the couch is too tempting :)

[Daphne – Indeed, Mother. The couch is too tempting, in this case, the casting-couch.]

    • Mother says:

Humorous Daphne though one can safely say that adult entertainment has nothing to do with the questions I posed.

  14. Likety-Like says:

Mother, issa mur fuq Facebook, itfa dak li ghidt hawn u bil-haqq, tinsiex taghfas ‘like’.
