The head of state and the First Man: representing Malta soon at state occasions near and far

Mr and Mrs Edgar Preca – they couldn’t more accurately represent Malta if they were picked from central casting. But heads of state are all about public relations on the world stage, not public relations at home.

That’s exactly what’s wrong with this choice: popular at home because most people are just like that and can’t see beyond it, and a non-starter everywhere else, where it really matters.

“Here come the Maltese head of state and her consort” – wow, impressive. Nice just doesn’t cut it, sorry.

The first couple

The kind of Maltese couple that parks the car on Dingli Cliffs on a Sunday afternoon and just stares.

  2. Second Republic says:

She is “not fond of ceremonial poses” but she is “a gift to Malta for the 50th anniversary of independence”.

He can always attend pottery classes with the other ladies or set up a book club (assuming he knows how to read).

However, he seems more appropriate to tour the schools and read horror stories to Maltese pupils. Listening to the first man reading horror stories might get the kids into the fear spirit. He has the looks anyway.

Deeper into the pits. Is God there, or is he one of them too?

  5. Imhaseb says:

Shouldn’t Edgar Preca be referred to as the First Gentleman?

What is it called Sense o` Thine ?

    Labour’s new president.

  8. Freedom5 says:

Yes, that’s him, the same Mr Edgar Preca who had imported the huge Fiat guzzler trucks used in the Kalaxlokk project in the golden eighties. Ssssh, perhaps an investigative journalist will find out more.

After hearing Mrs Muscat (MeShall) on TVAM this morning talking about her new role in promoting rare diseases and doing philanthropic work, I got the feeling that she will in the very near future be given the patronage of the Community Chest Fund.

Whilst nothing surprises me any more of what this government does and who it appoints I cannot help wondering if this can be done?

Isn’t this another reason why our new Head of State is a woman, so that Mrs Muscat can continue with her First Lady charade?

    • watchful eye says:

100% correct. So now as per the prime minister’s wishes and manoeuvres his wife fits in nicely as the first lady since the president nominee is a woman and her consort will have to fit in as the first man. This must also be a first. Only Maltese bachelors stood a chance for the seat. No wonder.
