Why the Minister for Health and Energy thinks podologists, particularly, are ‘fenomenali’

A reader has sent in the answer to the mystery of why Konrad Mizzi selected podologists for a special mention as being ‘fenomenali’.
He mentioned podologists because his cousin is a podologist and is now an assistant lecturer at the Dept of Podology, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Malta reading for a PhD. That is why they are phenomenal.

Thanks for pursuing this further. I had heard that it was his brother not a cousin. I can confirm that there is a person related to Konrad Mizzi working with the Podiatry Dept but I was very offended that other health care professionals are not considered ‘fenomenali’ simply because he has never heard of them.

Konrad, some people are not dumb. We can read into your answers and the fact that you mentioned podiatrists totally gave you away. I had a good chuckle at your expense.
People in healthcare usually never mention podiatrists or podologists as the first thing that comes to their mind when they mention the members of healthcare teams.
The fact that you chose to mention this profession is a clear indicator that someone close to you is part of the profession.
And just for your information, all health care professions are fenomenali because they all work with vulnerable people.
So some of us are indeed offended that you left us out of the equation and you have not even taken over yet. All healthcare professionals know that it takes a healthcare professional to really appreciate the needs of the health service.
How a person who sold most of our energy-producing plant to Chinese will understand that healthcare is about sound policies and not just cost-cutting is beyond me.
Well if you happen to be in difficulty I’m sure you can turn to your cousin for advice. Maybe another iced bun is being baked as we read.

Health ministry has been placed under Konrad Mizzi’s care only temporarily. I believe (hope I’m wrong) that the seat vacated by Ms Coleiro Preca will be filled by Mr Dalli (by co-option). He will then be eligible to take ministerial responsibility.
What about the seat to be vacated by Karmenu Vella?

I’ve got an even worse suspicion – what if Dr. Farrugia was not allowed to do his job properly so that Jo would have an excuse for this reshuffle to ultimately install John Dalli?
What if Farrugia, being the decent man that he is, never realized that he was being used as a pawn from day one?
He was never meant to succeed in this ministry. By now it’s pretty obvious that Jo’s style of government is like a game of chess – full of strategy, intrigue and duplicity, but with no concrete results. And everyone suspects that Dalli has him by the balls somehow. Poor Godfrey.
Malta is a phenomenon in itself.
I’m surprised he did not mention ‘akupunturisti fenomenali’ as a sop to the Chinese government.

He’s out of his depth. He just mentioned the one specialist he knows. I guess he thought of it would make him sound like he knows the field and is very knowledgeable about health care specialists.
Daphne, I don’t see why all this focus on podiatrists/ podologists. He mentioned a number of medical professionals including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and podologists specifically by name but also medical specialists (a very broad term which literally means every profession in the field of health care).
I don’t see why all this twisting and labelling of one specific profession and field of health care as if it is abnormal for a health minister to mention one field by name.

I am curious Daphne, do you even know what the podiatric profession entails? I think not or else you would not have made such unfounded statement seeking to undermine the profession.
We are living in 2014 and healthcare is not only just about doctors and nurses anymore as some old-fashioned people like yourself might still believe. Physiotherapists, OTs, Radiographers, Speech Therapists and a whole other healthcare providers amongst which Podiatrists all play a pivotal role in providing the best possible patient care and I cannot understand why all this fuss just because Dr. Mizzi, on this occasion singled out podiatry. I am sure other professions have been singled out before so why are you making all this fuss now?
