Martin Schulz, leader of the European Parliament and a member of the Socialist group, removed a paragraph about John Dalli from a European Parliament report.

The EU Observer reports:

The deleted paragraph notes members of the committee had been invited by the Belgian court to stand witness in a case involving the former Maltese commissioner for health, John Dalli.

Schulz withheld the invitation for two months. He also postponed committee hearings on the case, which involves accusations against senior officials at the European Commission.

Schulz had championed Joseph Muscat in the Labour Party leadership election in 2008, coming to Malta to give a testimonial for him. He came to Malta again in the general election campaign last year, to speak at a Labour Party mass meeting at Muscat’s invitation.

The context requires also a mention of the fact that Shulz is the Socialists’ candidate for the Presidency of the EU Commission, and Jo is now reciprocating his support to Shulz.
