“My client never wears a watch” – Erin Tanti’s defence counsel should know that making categoric statements on a liar’s behalf is a bad idea

Published: April 12, 2014 at 4:29am

Times of Malta reports:

Dr Sciriha says that his client never wore a watch. He is asking whether the sergeant made a mistake when he testified, yesterday, that Mr Tanti was wearing a watch and told him the exact timings including when he jumped.

The sergeant says he is not sure if Mr Tanti wore a watch but, when he spoke to him on the day of the rescue, Mr Tanti told him that he and Lisa arrived in Dingli at 11pm, they jumped at 3am and he came to his senses at the bottom of the cliff at 4am.

Of course Erin Tanti wore a watch (he probably stopped wearing one now, to back up his story). He can clearly be seen wearing one in this video on Times of Malta itself. See the link below.

L-avukat minfejn ġabha li l-akkużat qatt ma libes arloġġ f’ħajtu? Sintendi biex idaħħal d-dubji. Dan il-video jista’ jinġieb bħala xhieda li kien jilbes arloġġ?

Daft lawyer. He really put his foot in it deep there.

  3. Plotinus says:

Yes, Erin Tanti is wearing a watch in this video taken just last summer.

At 2:19 in the video James Ryder calls Erin Tanti ‘socially awkward’ and himself not very bright. Erin Tanti does not argue about it but agrees with it. He says ‘exactly’.

His miniature physique must be one of the reasons.

Excellent piece of investigative work, Daphne. There he is, being interviewed, wearing a watch. It’s becoming harder and harder to lie nowadays.

  5. MYL says:

What on earth happened between 11pm and 3am? I don’t think that swallowing 42 aspirins requires 4 hours – not that I am in the know about such matters.

Hysterical. He’s a cornered rat, but there’s no escape. Hope it’s brutal time he has in prison.

    • La Redoute says:

You know, that’s not the first time someone’s said that.

Tanti’s touched many young lives. Some are defending him even now. I don’t hope he has a brutal time in prison. I hope that everyone else has a good life outside it.

  7. Frank says:

Actually, is there any way you could send this video in to the prosecution?

  8. Natalie says:

His neck is as wide as his head. He’s really unattractive.

  9. Claude says:

Doesn’t look like someone who has no purpose in life or someone who is so unhappy he wants to end his life.

  10. Jozef says:

Yep, Strada Stretta, his kind of thing.

He’ll say he’s Lautrec next, that his was perfomance art.

Video shot in Strait Street. I really can’t understand this recent obsession with Strait Street among some of Malta’s “performers”.

They seem to want to glorify a past era by distorting history. This street was aptly called “the Gut” by British Navy servicemen and was a sort of red light district where drunken sailors threw up all over the place and some Maltese girls, pimps, bar owners and other assorted characters made money fleecing the sailors. Where’s the glory in that?

[Daphne – It was actually much worse than simply that. Women were kept as ‘white slaves’, some prostitutes were murdered, women gave birth to daughters to work them too, virgin children were sold at a premium, and boys were sold to men.]
