The falseness and hypocrisy of these two are truly nauseating

Published: April 5, 2014 at 10:19am

how sickening

Lawrence Gonzi and Eddie Fenech Adami (and their wives) were true and convinced, genuine believers.

Nobody ever had any doubt about that. It was obvious.

These two are just pretending – Muscat is barely pretending, going through the motions.

His wife, on the other hand, goes for the whole shebang pious look: down-turned face, eyes closed, hands pressed together in front of her like a six-year-old girl saying her bedtime prayers…

Then it’s out of there to grab, grab, grabbety-grab grab, act with brute and self-serving utilitarianism, and of course, let’s not forget the spite and malice.

Yes, and attack the Church during that “venish into tin air speech”

  2. bob-a-job says:

Ahh, but perhaps they are praying for another five years in government in which case their prayer would be genuine.

  3. Joe Fenech says:

What’s really nauseating is that there are still people who can be moved / impressed / aroused by thus bull sh## .

  4. Giovanni says:

Definitely posing. Knowing that the cameras were zooming at her side.

  5. Sparky says:

It was obvious that the Prime Minister’s wife attempted to outshine the President-elect (not that it takes a lot of effort). Were the twins present this time round? Oh and by the way, Muscat needs to go on a long diet and exercise regime.

  6. anon says:

There are even Mintuffjani in Malta who continuously rail against the Church, ridicule and belittle believers, particularly Christian but not exclusively, and then insist on being married in a Catholic church.

What de hack? It is so hypocritical. I say what I mean and mean what I say. I could never be so two-faced. It is similar to Obama who plays the good Christian but then does his utmost to marginalise the very religion that served as a basis for the founding of the nation.

    • TinaB says:

Yes, at the same time they post pictures of Jesus and the Madonna, or quotes praising God, on their Facebook walls – and from time to time also whole paragraphs full of insults directed at their “haters” and “enemies.”

I am starting to think that the Maltese population is becoming the saddest and most depressed in the world.

[Daphne – Din tal-‘haters’ toghgobni wisq. Most of those people are complete nonentities, and yet they bask in the belief that they matter enough to anyone to be hated.]

    • Bubu says:

The founding of America upon Christian principles is far from a clear fact. The Declaration of Independence never makes any mention of Christianity or the Christian God, preferring instead to use generic terms such as “creator”, “nature’s god” and “Divine providence”.

It is a well known fact that the majority of the founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson the author of the Declaration itself, were not Christians, but were instead deists, and most of them freemasons. Thomas Jefferson is documented to have been opposed to Christian teachings, in particular about beliefs in the supernatural.

Apart from all this, the right of freedom of religion and separation of church and state have been enshrined in the American constitution from the very beginning.

In view of the above, I fail to see the justification for your statement.

As for Christianity in America, you would have to specify which particular flavour, because the lunacy practiced there in the name of Jesus Christ is sometimes appalling.

    • Spite says:

You clearly haven’t read the U.S Constitution.

Perhaps you should do some research before posting nonsense.

  7. marks says:

    • albona says:

Or perhaps ‘catéchiste’ in keeping with the hamallu French hippie-type names given to the children.

nyota and jua would have been so much cooler – you guessed it, Swahili for sun and star.

“After confirming her identity and thanking everyone for their kind remarks (‘Looking good for 113, Merilweez!’) Ms Coleiro-Preca/the Grand Duchess reassured everyone that her Presidency was not the precursor to a Crimea-style annexation by Mother Russia.”

I have to admit that cracked mu a bit more than it probably should have.

You might as well add all the other European leaders with these two hypocrites, including Putin who is occasionally seen in church services. Angela Merkel maybe an exception.

First they go all out with the organised, subtle and not-so-subtle undermining of church values and traditions from all sides (just listen with care to what gets said on the Labour media all day and night) and then they put on the act of the first family swallowing hosts and piously making signs of the cross for propaganda photo-opportunities.

Well, ‘atheist’ is the new ‘gay’ in Malta, isn’t it? If you come out of the closet, you’re shunned.

    • ken il malti says:

If you come out of the closet you are placed on a PL billboard and then given a cushy job on the public’s dime for your effort.

  22. Tom Double Thumb says:

Hypocrisy and The Labour Party are increasingly becoming synonymous.

Remember the fuss and scandal-mongering about Tonio Fenech receiving a home-made clock as a present? As if the Prime Minister has never received any present before or after becoming PM.

Or when Tonio Fenech went with friends in a private plane to a football match? Can Jo tell us who paid for his several trips to watch matches and where he stayed overnight?

Or the cry of zero tolerance of corruption? And then giving an amnesty to at least a thousand known to have bribed public officials?

Or John Dalli’s thanksgiving Mass when the Police Commissioner decided there was not enough evidence to go on with the case?

Or people being hounded about government contracts?

What about Sai Mizzi and all those other friends of friends and relations, including the PM’s wife’s best friend and business partner, all put on the public payroll?

Or Deborah Schembri being chosen to present the offerings at the government’s inaugural mass after her clash with the Church in the question of divorce?

And that’s not to mention the farce and mockery of the Mintoff funeral.

The list is really endless. So why is anyone surprised that Joseph Muscat and his wife and Marie Louise Coleiro Preca chose to have Mass celebrated at Her Majesty’s investiture as President?
As far back as I can remember, and I go back a long way, the Labour Party has always been Hypocrisy personified..

  23. Nik says:

    Evita complex.

  24. Jozef says:

There she is, blaming the Church for civil society’s ills one day, a practising Catholic the next.

I strongly recommend she goes from Augustine’s to Guenon’s works if she’s troubled with who gets to define right and wrong.

The problem with most leftists is they never dicovered an alternative to their obsession; an all encompassing philosophy explicit in the architecture of a just society.

    They will remain Manicheans.

  25. bob-a-job says:

    What can I say.

Marie Louise Coleiro is the most beautiful female president Malta ever had.

    Because she’s the only one.

    • ken il malti says:

Agatha in a velour teddy-boy suit was nothing to sneeze at back in the day.

Her sister Rosie was even more fetching in a padded shoulder double breasted suit and a jaunty fedora on her head while walking arm in arm with her girlfriend on a quiet autumn evening in Marsascala.

  26. Sophia Lee says:

[Daphne – What a primitive comment. Were you raised in a medieval village? So backward that your political preferences are really no surprise.]

  28. Clueless says:

Speaking of falseness, have a look at this:

    http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20140405/local/updated-government-to-appeal-mepas-freeport-decision.513674

Joseph Muscat is yet again employing PR to turn public opinion in its favour in Birzebbuga after the damage caused by the power station debacle.

First the government-appointed board members vote in favour of the project, with the exception of the PL MP representative (and the Nationalist MP of course).

The government then submits an appeal so that public opinion perceives Labour as being pro-Birzebbuga and anti-MEPA. By getting the official PL representative to vote against the development, they try to make it seem as though the Government and MEPA are distinct. In a normal democracy they would be of course; but this is not a normal democracy and Joseph Muscat is not fooling anyone.

    • perpless says:

All this about government submitting an appeal is a joke. Only registered objectors can appeal against a MEPA decision.

As for a challenge before a court of law, it is pointless. It can only be challenged in court on a legal matter and, assuming that MEPA followed procedures, there are no legal grounds for challenging the permit.

MEPA board approved the application and the permit is there to stay.

    • Antoine Vella says:

And let us not forget that the Freeport itself is run by Muscat’s puppets. He could have ordered them to withdraw the application.

  29. Gahan says:

The whole ceremony was a circus.

These are the same people who in one breath conveniently attack the bishop from their privileged parliamentary seat while in the next, they bend to kiss the ring of the same bishop.

    Santa Bernardina

  34. Natalie2 says:

And then, during her famous speech in English she kept lashing out at the catechists and blaming Catholicism for women’s shortcomings in society.

Has anyone noticed that she does not sing the national anthem? Look at her during the President’s inspection of the Guard in St George’s Square. She either doesn’t know the words or the significance of it.

[Daphne – You are not supposed to sing the national anthem in a context like that. You are supposed to stand ramrod straight, your arms straight down at your sides, looking straight ahead, while listening to the musical version being played. And then when it’s over you can move.]
