‘Twixt words and deeds

I have received the following email:

So President Elect Dr. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca declared that her Presidency inauguration will be an opportunity for National Unity (capitals essential).

This inauguration will take place today.

Last Tuesday, three days before her inauguration, Mrs Coleiro Preca carried out the utmost politically divisive decision she could have taken by appointing Alfred Grixti as Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services, the holding foundation of the three public sector agencies which provide personalised social services.

This decision is scandalous and will impact the social sector negatively.

The foundation has had two CEOs so far: Joe Gerada, appointed through an open call for applications, and Sina Bugeja, who succeeded Joe Gerada, also appointed through an open call for applications, under Nationalists governments.

Both Joe Gerada and Sina Bugeja come from strong Labour backgrounds, and yet they were still appointed through a regular process on merit, after an open call.

Grixti has, however, been appointed directly, not on the basis of an open call, and he is a former long-time Labour Party official, a member of the party hierarchy when Marie Louise Coleiro was party secretary-general.

All the management and professionals of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services are devastated by the implications of Alfred Grixti’s appointment. The insolence involved in appointing a failed head of school to this position – an unmerited iced bun – when even Education Minister Evarist Bartolo did not want to retain him at the Employment and Training Corporation in such a sensitive position, is beyond belief.

Mrs Coleiro Preca has carried out the greatest disservice ever with this appointment.

Does anybody whether there was a call for the post of Chief Executive Officer at ETC? Or was Philip Rizzo put there without a call too? If this is the case, it is scandalous as in the case of Grixti. Are there any serious journalists out there at all?

The same man who wrote “Ghajn ghal ghajn, sinna ghal sinna man-Nazzjonalisti” just a few days ago.

    National Unity qalet?

  3. ciccio says:

Ah, so Alfred Grixti was not fit to be the CEO of ETC because he made remarks “Maghkom nimxu ghajn ghal ghajn u sinna ghal sinna,” but Madre Teresa of Qormi, who is now the President of Jo’s Banana Republic and “consultant” to Jo’s Social Policy Minister, thought him fit to be CEO of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services.

    Fenomenali.

Mrs Coleiro Preca is not ‘doctor’.

She never passed her 5th year law exams.

    PS

Was Grixti found guilty of hitting that boy in the head? Or was he let off the hook?

As is usual practice , the elected president resigns as member of the political party he/she belongs to. As far as i know i have not heard yet of any resignations.

  7. Actions speak louder than words. Malta’s new President has shown her inclusive standards on the eve of her inauguration. A leopard does not change its spots.

Neither in anyone even very remotely – but pretending to possess ‘royal blood’ – related to a Russian princess!

Let’s not forget Grixti is the brother of Labour MEP candidate Ivan Grixti

More went into the speech she delivered at the Palace. I could see new legislation in the making, defining the role of the President, with a twist of arch-minister in it.

Apparently Labour wants to bank on the pennant it has just hoisted up the post. None other can flutter in the wake of sweet breezes coming from the windows of Joe`s corridors of his mind. May it not be just another making of a puppet on a string.
